The Belle Vernon finished second Wednesday in the PIAA Class AA Team Championship at Penn State University’s White course.

The Leopards’ four golfers combined to shoot 18-over 306 and trailed Devon Prep by five strokes. Unlike the regular season, the state tournament plays five golfers — instead of six — with the best four scores counted.

Jordan Mocello and Seth Tomalski shared scoring honors for Belle Vernon at 2-over 74. Rogan Maloney and Jack Edwards both finished with 79. John Bellissimo’s 87 did not count.

Nick Ciocca fired a 2-under 70 for Devon Prep. Dan DiLella (75), John Curran (76), and Andrew Carroccio (80) also scored for Devon Prep.

Scranton (307), Clarion (317), Grove City (331), and Tulpehocken (332) rounded out the Class AA first-round scoring.

Peters Twp. won the Class AAA tournament after shooting 284 in the opening round. La Salle College (286), Unionville (294), State College (301), Abington Heights (302), and Hershey (316) follow on the team leaderboard.

The Peters Twp. girls finished first in Class AAA after shooting 231. Manheim Twp. (236), Conestoga (244), North Pocono (251), Seneca Valley (255), and McDowell (258) round out the first round scoring.

Hickory won the gold in the Class AA tournament after shooting 220. Fairview is second with 245, followed by Greensburg C.C. (273), Central Valley (298), and Westmont Hilltop (315).
