Vikings’ Gross advances to Section 1-AA final
Mount Pleasant junior Aydan Gross advanced to the Section 1-AA singles tournament championship Wednesday with a pair of victories.
Gross opened with a first-round bye with the No. 2 seed. He defeated Indiana’s Noah Weigner in the quarterfinals, 10-6, and downed Greensburg Salem’s Silas in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, in the semifinals.
Gross faces Valley’s Landon Harclerode in the championship. Both players earn a berth into next week’s WPIAL Class AA Championship.
Harclerode also opened with a bye as the No. 1 seed. He opened with a 10-1 win against Mount Pleasant’s Eli Duvall in the first round and downed Indiana’s Gabe Nettleton, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals.
Nettleton and Morris play in the consolation match for the third berth into the district championship.
Duvall opened the tournament with a first-round victory over Greensburg Salem’s Tommy Shrum, 10-2.
Southmoreland’s Aidan Guyer lost in the first round by a 10-2 score to Nettleton. Teammate Nolan Blaze lost in the first round, 10-0, to Indiana’s Noah Weigner.
