Gillott receives PSAC pitching honor
Slippery Rock redshirt sophomore Gage Gillott was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week for his work last week against Indiana (Pa.).
The Connellsville graduate pitched his second straight two-hit, complete-game shutout in Slippery Rock’s 5-0 win against the Crimson Hawks. Gillott struck out five and allowed only two runners in scoring position.
Gillott (5-1) with a 0.82 ERA. He now has thrown 14.1 consecutive scoreless innings.
College softball
Waynesburg freshman outfielder Sydney Waryanka was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Softball Newcomer of the Week for her play against Franciscan last Saturday.
Waryanka was 3-for-6 with three home runs as the Yellow Jackets posted a pair of conference wins against Franciscan.
Waryanka hit a two-run home run and a grand slam and drove in six runs in the Yellow Jackets’ 10-1 win in the opening game. Waryanka cracked a grand slam in the second game in Waynesburg’s 11-0 win.
The Yellow Jackets have won seven in a row with the doubleheader sweep.
College golf
Washington & Jefferson sophomore Megan Joyce won her third tournament in a row with medalist honors Monday in the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Tournament at Southpointe Golf Club.
The Laurel Highlands graduate finished with 80 after carding a birdie and 10 pars.
The Presidents won the team title with 362.
Connellsville’s Abby Tikey finished tied for seventh with a score of 108. The Washington & Jefferson freshman played as an individual.
