Lady Bearcats’ Gonglik fires 3-inning perfect game

Bentworth freshman Sydney Gonglik didn’t allow a runner and her teammates scored 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 15-0 victory in three innings Thursday afternoon against visiting Fort Cherry in Section 3-AA action.

Gonglik recorded eight of the nine outs by strikeout. She also had a double, scored two runs and had two RBI.

Kyleigh Glaze belted a grand slam for the Lady Bearcats (5-0, 7-2). Willow Eckels had a pair of doubles. Sofia Gaussa finished with two hits and two RBI. Zoie McDonald also drove in two runs.

Connellsville 11, Trinity 10 – The Lady Falcons scored last for a wild Section 4-AAAA victory over the visiting Lady Hillers.

Kameron Kantorik opened the bottom of the seventh inning with a double and moved to third when a ball hit by Molly Greenawalt was mishandled, allowing Greenawalt second base. Elizabeth Painter was walked intentionally.

Rylee Dreves grounded out to first base with Kantorik scoring the tying run on the play.

Winning pitcher Iris Burd then came through with the game-winning single.

The Lady Falcons (4-1, 8-3) were a held third strike away from winning 9-6, but the missed third strike gave Trinity life and the visitors made the most of the opportunity with Remmie Seitz belting a two-run home run.

Hannah Suhoski’s two-run home run earlier in the inning closed the gap to 9-8.

Connellsville scored single runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings.

Trinity (3-2, 7-3) rallied back with six runs in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Hillers tied the game and then took the lead after a call that was disputed by the Connellsville faithful on another missed third strike.

Connellsville maintained the tag was successfully applied, but the umpire ruled the ball was not held long enough for the out. A run scored on the play and kept the inning alive.

Trinity made the most of the second chance when Alexa Zawacki smacked a three-run homer for a 6-2 advantage.

The Lady Falcons responded in a big way with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Painter and Dreves doubled, and Burd was safe on an error to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Kirra Davis followed with a two-run home run to tie the game at 6-6.

Connellsville kept the inning alive, scoring three more runs on Kantorik’s fielder’s choice and RBI singles by Greenawalt and Painter.

Burd struck out 10, walked three, allowed five hits and hit one batter in the victory.

Belle Vernon 9, Albert Gallatin 8 – Katie Sokol belted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Lady Leopards to a Section 2-AAAA home victory.

Albert Gallatin led 8-2 after three innings, but Belle Vernon (5-2, 10-2) scratched back with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Belle Vernon’s Gracie Sokol hit a solo home run and double. Lauren VanDivner added three singles and three RBI. Mailey Hayes had a double and single, and Sydney Callaway drove in two runs. Mia Zubovic, Maddie Grisnik and Taylor Beech all doubled in the victory.

Lily Crawford started for Belle Vernon and didn’t last an inning after allowing six unearned runs on five hits and a walk. Grisnik entered the game in the first inning and allowed two runs (one earned) on nine hits with five walks and five strikeouts to earn the win.

Mya Glisan led Albert Gallatin (1-5, 1-6) with a double, two singles and two RBI. Aly Sharpnak drove in two runs. Gianna Seese contributed three singles.

Uniontown 6, Ringgold 2 – The Lady Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning for a Section 2-AAAA home victory.

Ava Livingood spotted Uniontown (6-0) an early 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first inning.

Livingood’s single and a double by Nellie Budinsky extended the Lady Raiders’ lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Lady Raiders’ Delaney Ansell hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Emmaleigh Noah allowed one earned run on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Dani Vecchio took the loss, striking out eight and walking one. Vecchio and Addison Jenkins drove in one run each.

West Greene 5, Mapletown 4 – Melissa Tharp drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning in West Greene’s Section 2-A home win.

West Greene (4-1, 5-3) tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Mapletown regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Payton Gilbert struck out nine in the win to run her total to 203 strikeouts. She also doubled and drove in a run.

Tharp went 3-for-4 and made a couple of big catches, one leading to a double play in the top of the sixth inning. Madelyn Roberts contributed two hits, including a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Devan Clark struck out six and didn’t walk a batter in the loss.

Charleroi 12, Beth-Center 0 – Sofia Celaschi didn’t allow a hit and struck out 11 in the Lady Cougars’ Section 3-AA victory in five innings.

Charleroi improves to 4-2 in the section and 7-2 overall. Beth-Center goes to 2-2 in the section.

Jefferson-Morgan 17, Avella 1 – Emilee Bazzoli struck out 10 in the Lady Rockets’ Section 2-A victory.

Bazzoli, Addalei Larkin, Ashlyn Snyder and Kayla Larkin all doubled for Jefferson-Morgan (2-2, 2-4).

Taylor Shirley doubled for the Lady Eagles (0-5, 3-6).

Ligonier Valley 2, Southmoreland 1 – Cheyenne Piper scattered three hits and struck out 11 as the Lady Rams handed Southmoreland its first Section 3-AAA loss of the season.

Sydnee Foust and Neve Dowden drove in runs for Ligonier Valley (3-1, 6-1).

Taylor Doppelheuer doubled and drove in the lone run for Southmoreland (4-1, 9-1).

Mount Pleasant 11, Valley 0 – Dani Trainer allowed only one hit in five innings in Mount Pleasant’s non-section victory over Valley.

Emma Leechalk hit a home run and Kendall Waters finished with a double and two singles for Mount Pleasant (5-4).

Jessica Staraniec had the lone hit for Valley (0-9) with a single.

Waynesburg Central 10, Keystone Oaks 0 – Gina Tedrow had 13 strikeouts and doubled to lead the Lady Raiders to a Section 4-AAA victory.

Mikaylynn Good belted a home run and Breanna Kerr and Ellie Makel both hit two doubles for Waynesburg (2-2, 4-6).
