WPIAL team track semifinal playoff sites set

Waynesburg Central freshman Railey Bochna lands a triple jump during the Section 6-AA Track & Field Championship at California on Wednesday. The Waynesburg Central boys and girls, California boys and girls, Laurel Highlands girls, Connellsville boys, Elizabeth Forward boys, Belle Vernon girls and Southmoreland boys will participate in the WPIAL team semifinals on Tuesday.

The pursuit of a WPIAL team track & field title begins Tuesday at various semifinal sites around the district.

The top team from each of the semifinal sites advances to the WPIAL Track & Field Championships at Peters Township Middle School’s Confluence Financial Partners Stadium.

California, the boys Section 7-AA champions, will host one of the Class AA semifinals.

Greensburg C.C., the defending boys champion, Fort Cherry and Winchester Thurston will vie for the one boys championship berth at California with a 3 p.m. start.

The California girls host Southmoreland, Winchester Thurston and Fort Cherry.

The Waynesburg Central boys and girls travel to West Mifflin. The Raiders join Riverview, Ellwood City, Knoch and the host Titans in the boys semifinal, while the Section 6-AA champion Lady Raiders, Knoch, Beaver and the Lady Titans square off in the girls meet.

The Shenango girls host Hopewell, Freeport and Shady Side Academy, and South Park is the host site for Derry, Quaker Valley, the defending Class AA champion, and Freedom.

The Shenango boys are the semifinal site for Hopewell, Trinity Christian, South Side Area and Deer Lakes. The South Park boys host Quaker Valley, East Allegheny and Winchester Thurston.

The Laurel Highlands girls, the Section 2-AAA champs, join Upper St. Clair and Kiski Area at Norwin with a 3 p.m. start. Belle Vernon, runner-up in Section 2-AAA, joins Mt. Lebanon and Oakland Catholic at South Fayette at 2:30 p.m.

North Allegheny, the defending Class AAA champion, is the host site for Canon-McMillan, Hempfield and Blackhawk. North Catholic and Franklin Regional travel to North Allegheny.

The Section 2-AAA champion Connellsville boys are on the road with Baldwin and Kiski Area at Norwin. Elizabeth Forward, the second place team in Section 2-AAA, Mt. Lebanon and New Castle travel to South Fayette.

North Allegheny, the Class AAA defending champions, host Canon-McMillan, Hampton and Blackhawk. Butler is the host site of Franklin Regional, Moon and Central Catholic.
