Falcons roll to 66-0 victory over Chartiers Valley
The Connellsville boys wrestling team rolled over Chartiers Valley Wednesday night with a 66-0 victory.
Tyler Gallis (285), Landon Lynn (121), Julian Ruggieri (139), Evan Petrovich (145), Nicholas Rohal (172), and Christopher Cook (215) won by fall. Nolan Rice (107) and Tommy Gretz (114) received forfeits.
Chase Sparks (127) Lonzy Vielma (160), and Cooper Lembo (189) won by decision. Kai Vielma had a major decision at 133 pounds, and Kolton Turek won by technical fall at 152 pounds.
Women’s basketball
Penn State Beaver 77, Penn State Fayette 55 – Penn State Beaver held a 22-point halftime lead and made the advantage stand for a PSUAC road victory.
The teams played to a 40-40 tie in the second half.
Sophia Zalar led the way for Penn State Fayette with 21 points. Stephanie Taylor finished with 10.
Penn State Beaver’s Claudia Siegfried scored a game-high 26 points. Emery Black and Taylor Woodruff both finished with 13 points.
California (Pa.) 84, Clarion 53 – Dejah Terrell finished with another double-double to lead the Vulcans to a PSAC West Conference home win.
Terrell scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as California improves to 12-6 in the PSAC West and 17-7 overall.
The Vulcans led 20-7, 34-23 and 62-45 at the quarter breaks.
California’s Alicia Young (13), Allycia Harris (10), Sierra Bermudez (16), and Iyahnna Williams (14) also scored in double figures.
Autumn Taylor led the Golden Eagles (0-18, 0-24) with a game-high 18 points. Sadre’a Rougeau added 15 points.
Waynesburg 88, Franciscan 47 – The Yellow Jackets were tough from 3-point range, converting 18-of-27 attempts in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference road victory.
Waynesburg improves to 4-15 in the conference and 5-19 overall.
The Yellow Jackets’ Kara McFadden made all five of her 3-point attempts to finish with 15 points. Mia Henkins scored 15 points on five 3-point goals. Julz Mohrbacher scored 10 points.
Clara-Paige Miller, Aubrey Burns and Marley Wolf all made two 3-pointers.
Maria McCallen scored 14 points and Sophie Rose finished with 11 for Franciscan (2-17, 4-20)
Men’s basketball
Penn State Fayette 103, Penn State Beaver 55 – Penn State Fayette breezed to a PSUAC home victory after scoring 61 points in the first half.
Torian Jenkins led the way for Fayette with a game-high 27 points. Jahmere Richardson and Dasilas Jones both scored 18. William DeShields added 17 points.
Alex Green (12), Josh McCloud (11), and Trevor Franklin (10) finished in double figures for Penn State Beaver.
California (Pa.) 95, Clarion 66 – The visiting Vulcans blew the game open with 58 points in the second half for a PSAC West Conference home victory.
California goes to 15-3 in the conference and 21-3 overall. Clarion slips to 5-13 in the PSAC West and 7-17 overall.
The Vulcans’ KJ McClurg had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Zyan Collins and Donald Whitehead, Jr. both scored 17 points.
Cam Keaney paced the Golden Eagles with 19 points. Steve Kelly scored 11.
Waynesburg 84, Franciscan 80 – The Yellow Jackets held on for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference road.
Waynesburg (10-9, 13-11) led 43-37 at halftime. The Barons (5-14, 8-15) held a 43-41 advantage in the second half.
The Yellow Jackets’ Jaylen Davis had a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Davis made 11-of-15 foul shot attempts. Antone Baker and Korey Mitchum both scored 19 points.
Franciscan’s Sawyer Butler scored a game-high 26 points. Josh Zimmerman (14), Joseph Ciola (12), Frank Bellissimo (12), and Karl Yonkeu (10) also scored in double digits.
