Lady Gators hold off West Greene for 49-44 home victory
The Geibel Catholic girls withstood West Greene’s strong third quarter Monday night for a 49-44 victory in a Section 2-A home game.
The Lady Gators (12-5) sit alone in second place behind Monessen in the section standings with a 5-2 record. The Lady Pioneers slip to 4-3 in the section and 7-10 overall.
Geibel led 28-12 at halftime, but the visitors stormed back in the third quarter with a 23-11 advantage.
Emma Larkin paced Geibel with 23 points. Ava Henderson added 13.
West Greene’s Kendra Tharp scored a game-high 24 points.
Monessen 57, Jefferson-Morgan 15 – The Lady Greyhounds scored all the points they needed in the first quarter for a Section 2-A road victory.
Monessen (7-0, 13-3) led 19-5 after the first quarter and 36-9 at halftime.
Hailey Johnson led Monessen with 14 points. Ava Wood scored five points for the Lady Rockets (1-6, 3-15).
McKeesport 63, Albert Gallatin 19 – The visiting Lady Tigers held Albert Gallatin to single digits in all four quarters for a Section 3-AAAAA win.
Kaylee Charles led McKeesport (7-1, 15-2) with a game-high 15 points. Maddy Hertzler and Maddie Miller both finished with 11 points.
Mya Glisan finished with 11 points for the Lady Colonials (1-9, 4-15).
Latrobe 45, Connellsville 11 – The Wildcats breezed to a Section 3-AAAAA road win over the Lady Falcons.
Ellie Snyder led Latrobe (4-5, 9-10) with 15 points. Elizabeth Painter scored four points for Connellsville (0-9, 3-13).
Belle Vernon 47, Southmoreland 24 – Caroline Lee’s double-double led the Lady Leopards to a Section 3-AAAA home victory.
Lee scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Belle Vernon (6-4, 10-10). Kenzi Seliga added 11 points.
Bea Pawlikowsky scored three points for the Lady Scots (1-8, 2-16).
West Mifflin 52, Uniontown 25 – The Lady Titans scored 27 points in the third quarter to pull away for a Section 3-AAAA home victory.
West Mifflin (7-2, 9-6) led 13-10 at halftime, but the lead grew to 40-18 after three quarters.
A’Kira Dade scored nine points for the Lady Raiders (2-8, 5-13) and Geelece Ingram added seven.
Savaughn Wimbs led the way for West Mifflin with 22 points. Kendall Lee scored 15 points and A’ryah Scott added 10.
Elizabeth Forward 60, Laurel Highlands 31 – The Lady Warriors handed Laurel Highlands its second Section 3-AAAA loss of the season with a strong first half.
Elizabeth Forward improves to 10-0 in the section and 17-2 overall. Laurel Highlands goes to 7-2 in the section and 15-2 overall.
The Lady Warriors led 32-17 at halftime.
Alyssa Terza paced the Lady Warriors with a game-high 28 points. Chloe Zombek added 11 points.
Miya Harris led Laurel Highlands with 14 points.
Mount Pleasant 39, Deer Lakes 16 – The Lady Vikings led 23-7 at halftime for a Section 3-AAA road victory.
Mount Pleasant improves to 4-3 in the section and 11-6 overall. Deer Lakes slides to 0-7 in the section and 4-14 overa..
Riley Gesinski led the way for the Lady Vikings with a game-high 13 points. Sophia Laurenza scored six points for the Lady Lancers.
Charleroi 60, Yough 48 – Charleroi won its first Section 4-AAA game of the season with a home victory over visiting Yough.
Yough (1-6, 8-10) led 17-7 after the first quarter and 24-20 at halftime. Charleroi outscored the visitors in the second half, 40-24, to rally for its first win.
Ella Sypolt led Charleroi (1-6, 8-9) with 21 points. Belle Carroto finished with 20 points and Riley Jones added11.
Yough’s Autumn Matthews finished with a game-high 26 points.
South Park 43, Brownsville 34 – The Lady Falcons were unable to take advantage of the visitors’ slow start in the second half in a Section 4-AAA loss.
The Lady Eagles (6-1, 12-6) led 11-8, 28-16 and 37-22 at the quarter breaks.
Skyler Gates scored a game-high 13 points for Brownsville (3-4, 10-8). Ava Clark finished with 11 points.
South Park’s Andrea Kaczma scored 12 points.
Waynesburg Central 65, McGuffey 40 – The Lady Raiders remained unbeaten in Section 4-AAA play with a road victory over the Lady Highlanders.
Waynesburg improves to 7-0 in the section and 17-1 overall.
The Lady Raiders led 18-7 after the first quarter and 35-22 at halftime. The lead grew to 52-24 after three quarters.
Addison Blair (17), Avery Davis (16), Kaley Rohanna (13), and Peyton Cowell (11) all scored in double figures for Waynesburg.
McGuffey’s Taylor Schumacher scored a game-high 22 points. Madison Gaso finished with 11 points.
Carmichaels 40, Bentworh 36 – The Lady Mikes held on in the fourth quarter for a Section 4-AA road win.
Carmichaels (2-7, 3-15) led 11-9 after the first quarter. Bentworth rallied back for a 23-16 halftime lead.
The Lady Mikes responded with a 14-6 advantage for a 30-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Megan Voithofer led Carmichaels with 13 points.
Aubrie Logan scored a game-high 16 points for the Lady Bearcats (1-9, 4-15). Amber Sallee finished with 15 points and Kayla O’Dell pulled down 11 rebounds.
Boys basketball
Fort Cherry 85, Beth-Center 56 – The visiting Rangers scored 66 points in the first half to roll to a Section 4-AA victory over the Bulldogs.
Santino Revi, Jonah Sussan and Jason Zellie all scored nine points for Beth-Center (3-6, 5-13).
Hockey
Bishop Canevin 9, Elizabeth Forward 0 – The Crusaders broke the PIHL D2 Division game open with five goals in the second period.
Ryan Saginaw scored four goals for Bishop Canevin (15-0-0-0-0). Eion Tiernan and Brian Kalanish both netted two goals and Mason Glover scored one.
Elizabeth Forward (7-6-0-0-0) went 0-for-7 on the power play.
The Warriors’ Andrew Weir stopped 32 shots. Bishop Canevin’s Ayden Worstell had 12 saves.
Women’s basketball
Indiana (Pa.) 61, California (Pa.) 51 – The home team led by 11 at halftime and made the advantage stand for a PSAC West Conference victory over the visiting Vulcans.
California is 9-4 in the conference and 14-5 overall. Indiana improves to 10-3 in the PSAC West and 14-4 overall.
The Vulcans’ Dejah Terrell had her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Allycia Harris also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Crimson Hawks’ Rahmena Henderson scored a game-high 18 points.
Men’s basketball
California (Pa.) 65, Indiana (Pa.) 57 – The Vulcans returned home with a PSAC West Conference victory over the rival Crimson Hawks.
California improves to 11-2 in the conference and 17-2 overall. Indiana is 10-3 in the PSAC West and 13-6 overall.
California led 21-18 at halftime.
KJ McClurg paced the Vulcans with 16 points. Jermaine Hall Jr. had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Donald Whitehead Jr. added 12 points.
Indiana’s Garvin Clark scored a game-high 21 points.
