Copperheads open FCBL playoffs with 10-0 win

Carmichaels pounded out 12 hits in a 10-0 victory over visiting WBAC in Sunday’s opening game of the Fayette County Baseball League best-of-3 semifinals.
The Copperheads broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Alex Vansickle drove in two runs with a single. Forrest Havanis singled home a run and Gavin Pratt scored on a passed ball.
Carmichaels grabbed the early lead on Noah Mildren’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.
The lead grew to 2-0 on AJ Vanata’s ground out in the bottom of the third inning. Vansickle belted a solo home run in the fourth inning.
The Copperheads invoked the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth inning on Mildren’s RBI single and Havanis’ bases-loaded walk.
Gianni Cantini went the distance for the win. He gave up six hits, walked one and struck out eight.
Carmichaels’ Drake Long was 3-for-3. Jimmy Sadler had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Eight players had at least one hit for Carmichaels.
Trevor Stewart had a pair of singles for WBAC. Colby Simmons, Donovan von Fradenburgh, Hunter Pelehac, and Jerimiah Shrum all had one single in the loss.
