Rohanna misses cut in US Women’s Open

Rachel Rohanna just wasn’t able to get on a roll in Friday’s second round of the U.S. Women’s Open, and missed the cut after shooting 7-over 77.
Rohanna opened with 6-over 76 and finished with a two-round total of 13-over 153 at Lancaster Country Club.
The Waynesburg Central graduate believed entering the second day a par round would’ve been good enough for her to make the cut, and her assessment was correct with the cut for the top 60 and ties at 8-over 148.
“The second round was very similar to the first. I played mediocre golf on a tough course,” explained Rohanna. “It was a frustrating week. I couldn’t get anything going all week.
“It’s such a tough golf course. I didn’t make anything worse than a bogey.
“You had to be so precise this week. I had to get lucky and get a couple shots close.”
Rohanna played in the afternoon session and started on No. 10. She had a par-par start, but bogeyed No. 12, the hole that played the toughest in the first round, after she had a par on Thursday.
“The pin was back left about 157 (yards) into the wind, and I airmailed the green,” said Rohanna.
Rohanna bogeyed four of the next six holes to go out in 5-over 40.
She opened her back nine with a third bogey in a row, but rallied a little bit with her only birdie of the tournament on No. 2, her 11th hole.
“After I made my first birdie I said finally,” said Rohanna. “If I can shoot better than I did yesterday, I’d be happy.”
Rohanna followed with three straight pars, but knew she had ground to make up to slip under the cut line.
“I started to press on the back nine,” said Rohanna. “I started to play more aggressively. It made me think I was playing too conservative.”
She bogeyed her 15th hole and closed her round with the eighth bogey of the day.
Rohanna only found three of the 13 fairways. She hit 10-of-17 greens in regulation.
“If you don’t hit good tee shots, you land in the rough. You aren’t going to hit the green out of the rough,” said Rohanna. “Fairway bunkers or greenside bunkers are a better place to be.”
Rohanna needed 35 putts in the second round after 34 putts in the first round.
“I didn’t putt well enough to make the cut. I didn’t take advantage when I had a chance,” said Rohanna. “The greens were difficult to read. No one really made a putt.
“I know I’m not the only one out there not making putts.”
Rohanna continued, “You start getting into your own head. Everyone is struggling on the greens.”
Rohanna plans to change her putter and irons after this week.
“I need a little more spin on the ball (with her irons),” said Rohanna.
Rohanna wasn’t sure where her next tournament will be. She’s on the waiting list for the LPGA ShopRite Classic presented by Acer in Galloway, N.J. If a spot doesn’t open, then she’s off to Battle Creek, Mich., for the Epson Tour FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship.
Rohanna has been playing golf long enough to understand not to get too low or too high from a tournament.
“I keep it in perspective. I’ve been playing this game long enough to understand it’s a tough game,” said Rohanna. “I hope to get a couple good finishes the next couple weeks and move up the money list.
“I need to think of the big picture and what is the best chance of getting in the LPGA again.”
Rohanna added, “I know I’m a streaky player.I need to get a little momentum going.”
