Sydney Gonglik allowed two hits and belted a solo home run to lead Bentworth to a 4-1 victory at Everett on Monday in the first round of the PIAA Class AA softball playoffs.

Bentworth (18-4) advances to the quarterfinals Thursday and will play Laurel. Laurel (20-5) defeated Cranberry, 4-1.

The Lady Bearcats scored in the top of the first inning and increased their lead to 3-0 in the third inning. Bentworth added another run in the top of the fourth inning.

Everett (20-3) scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Gonglik struck out 14 and walked only one.

Kyleigh Glaze led the way for the Lady Bearcats with two RBI and three hits. Zoie McDonald drove in a run and Sofia Gaussa doubled.

Claysburg-Kimmel 6, West Greene 6 — Claysburg-Kimmel rallied from a one-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the first inning for a first-round victory in the PIAA Class A softball playoffs.

Sammi Zimmerman’s fielder’s choice brought home Emmaline Beazell to give the Lady Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Emalee Cavendar hit Payton Gilbert’s first pitch in the bottom of the inning over the fence to tie the game at 1-1. Jenna Helsel and McKenna Black added run-scoring doubles to give the home team a 3-1 lead.

Claysburg-Kimmel added single runs in the bottom of the second, fourth and sixth innings.

Gilbert, Zimmerman and Kylee Davis all had doubles for West Greene (13-10). Gilbert allowed nine hits, walked four and struck out 1.

Cavendar allowed five hits, walked one and struck out five for the win.

Claysburg-Kimmel (23-1) plays Carmichaels in Thursday’s quarterfinal round. Carmichaels (17-2) upended Cambridge Springs, 2-1.
