Clark throws perfect game in Lady Falcons’ 15-0 victory
Ava Clark tossed a perfect game and reached 300 strikeouts after striking out nine in the Lady Falcons’ 15-0 non-section victory Tuesday over visiting Monessen.
Clark didn’t walk a batter in the four-inning game and hit a home run.
Zaydee Downer also homered for Brownsville (5-9). Skyler Gates contributed two doubles and three RBI. Alexa Pellick finished with two singles and three RBI. Blair Long drove in two runs. Mia O’Hern and Jordyn Davis both had two singles.
Bentworth 13, Beth-Center 0 — The Lady Bearcats not only clinched a perfect Section 3-AA record, but pulled Burgettstown into the playoffs with a victory at Beth-Center.
Bentworth finishes the regular season with a 12-0 section record and an overall mark of 14-2. Beth-Center goes to 5-7 in the section and 6-7 overall.
Sydney Gonglik allowed only one hit, didn’t walk a batter and struck out 13. The freshman also hit a home run.
The Lady Bearcats’ Aubrie Logan tripled and drove in three runs. Nora Lindley had two RBI.
West Greene 6, Waynesburg Central 2 — Sammi Zimmerman earned the win and drove in four runs to lead the Lady Pioneers to a non-section win at Waynesburg Central.
Zimmerman struck out four and walked one in four innings of work. She hit a two-run home run in the third inning and added a two-run single in the seventh inning.
Payton Gilbert pitched the final three innings with three strikeouts to earn the save, and drove in a run with a single.
Gina Tedrow struck out 12 in the loss. Aidan Snider and Eve Pester doubled for the Lady Raiders.
Elizabeth Forward 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 — The Lady Warriors pushed the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning for a non-section home win.
The Lady Jaguars scored a run in the top of the fourth inning. Elizabeth Forward (17-1) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Shelby Telegdy struck out seven in the win. Telegdy also had a double, single and the game-winning RBI. Hannah Evans doubled and Alivia Grimm drove in a run.
Charleroi 3, Ringgold 0 — Sofia Celaschi scattered three hits. walked one and struck out eight in a non-section victory over visiting Ringgold.
Celaschi also doubled for Charleroi (11-4). The Lady Cougars’ Madalynn Lancy, Ariahna Blouse and Lyla Brunner drove in one run each.
Dani Vecchio had a double and single for Ringgold (2-13).
Connellsville 10, Laurel Highlands 0 — Iris Burd faced the minimum number of batters in the Lady Falcons’ non-section victory over visiting Laurel Highlands.
Kendra Firestone singled in the third inning, but was thrown out attempting to steal. Emme Cavaliere singled in the fifth inning, but the Lady Falcons’ turned a double play to clear the bases.
Burd struck out five and didn’t walk a batter for Connellsville (12-7).
Connellsville’s Kirra Davis belted a two-run home run in the first inning and Cali Leichliter hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Leichliter and Kameron Kantorik doubled, and Rylee Dreves finished with two singles.
Yough 18, Greensburg Salem 0 — Kylee Fisher scattered three hits and struck out eight in the Lady Cougars’ non-section win.
Fisher also had a strong day at the plate for Yough (8-4) with two doubles and three RBI. Maddie Horvat finished with four hits and four RBI, and Katie Proctor drove in three runs.
