Southmoreland scored 20 points in the second quarter Friday night and held Mount Pleasant scoreless through three quarters for a 28-7 road victory in an Interstate Conference game.

Southmoreland improves to 3-0 in the conference and 7-1 overall, and is on the road next week at Elizabeth Forward. Mount Pleasant goes to 2-1 in conference and 4-4 overall.

Mount Pleasant’s Richard Shawley intercepted a tipped pass in the first quarter, but the drive stalled.

Southmoreland’s offense got rolling in the second quarter and scored three touchdowns.

Elliot Premus, running out of the wildcat, powered two yards into the end zone at 11:03.

Jackson Mickens landed just inside the pylon as he rolled over after making a nifty catch for a 29-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Smith. The point-after was blocked for a 13-0 lead with 6:46 left in the first half.

Premus added a 12-yard touchdown reception with 1:32 left when he leapt to snare a fade in the back of the end zone. Premus caught five passes for 52 yards.

Mount Pleasant posted its only score of the game five seconds into the fourth quarter on Jarett Garn’s two-yard run.

Smith found Makel Darnell open five minutes later for a 46-yard touchdown pass. Smith completed 16-of-28 passes for 284 yards and Darnell finished with four receptions for 116 yards.

Elizabeth Forward 45, Yough 7 – The Warriors kept pace with Southmoreland atop the Interstate Conference standings with a win over the visiting Cougars.

Elizabeth Forward goes to 3-0 in the conference and 5-3 overall. Yough slips to 0-3 in the conference and 2-6 overall.

The Warriors’ Andrew Grese opened the game with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Elizabeth Forward quarterback Ryan Messina had a 95-yard touchdown pass to Connor Stokes in the second quarter and scoring passes of 23 yards to Chad Rager and 16 yards to Andrew Grese in the second half. Messina completed 9-of-11 passes for 247 yards.

Luke Holden hit a 32-yard field goal and Charlie Nigut scored on a 1-yard run in the second half for the Warriors.

Raidon Kuroda found Ryan Sarver open for a 4-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

Belle Vernon 47, Laurel Highlands 10 – The Mustangs scored the first points and last points of the Big 6 Conference game, and the Leopards scored 47 unanswered points in between for a key home win.

Tanner Bruzda connected on a 36-yard field goal to spot Laurel Highlands (1-2, 4-2) the early lead.

Curtis Wade rallied the Leopards (2-1, 3-3) to a 21-3 halftime lead with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Deaubre Lightfoot, a 40-yard scoring strike to Anthony Crews, and a 12-yard run into the end zone.

Belle Vernon kept the momentum alive in the third quarter on Crews’ 44-yard touchdown run and Kole Doppelheuer’s 45-yard scoring run in the third quarter. Doppelheuer carried the ball 19 times for 169 yards.

Wade connected on a 14-yard touchdown pass to Doppelheuer early in the fourth quarter. Wade completed 7-of-12 passes for 111 yards.

Nick Mahalko continued the scoring run with a 77-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Mustangs’ Antwan Black returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown.

Washington 41, Charleroi 6 – The Prexies rolled to a Century Conference victory over the visiting Cougars.

Tristan Reed ran for three touchdowns for Washington (3-1, 5-3). Caleb Patton returned a 33-yard interception for a touchdown.

Ameer Nelson finished with 117 yards rushing and Trenton Grooms ran for 129 yards.

Jackson Keranko completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Noah Pletcher for Charleroi (1-3, 1-7).

Jefferson-Morgan 44, Bentworth 12 – The Rockets scored 36 points in the middle two quarters for a Tri-County South Conference home victory.

Jefferson-Morgan remains undefeated, improving to 5-0 in the conference and 8-0 overall. The Bearcats are 2-3 in the conference and 4-4 overall.

Jefferson-Morgan quarterback Houston Guesman had another solid performance with three touchdown passes and scoring runs of 16 and 5 yards. Guesman completed 8-of-11 passes for 253 yards and ran for 97 yards.

Deakyn Dehoet caught seven passes for 238 yards and touchdowns of 54, 50 and 78 yards. John Gilbert carried the ball 18 times for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Ben Hays scored a pair of touchdowns on short runs for Bentworth (2-3, 4-4).

California 48, West Greene 14 – The Trojans scored 22 points in the fourth quarter for a Tri-County South Conference road victory.

California improves to 5-0 in the conference and 6-2 overall. West Greene goes to 3-2 in the conference and 3-5 overall.

The Trojans’ Lee Qualk had touchdown runs of 3, 28, 16 and 26 yards, and rushed for 246 yards on 30 carries.

California’s Logan Hartley completed a 29-yard pass to Vinny Manzella. Matthew Miller returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown. Landon Abercrombie had a 23-yard touchdown run.

West Greene’s Lane Allison threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Durbin and a 9-yard scoring toss to Jackson Grimes. Allison completed 7-of-17 passes for 126 yards.

Carmichaels 19, Avella 6 – The Eagles (2-3, 3-5) opened the scoring in the first quarter and the Mikes responded with the next 19 points.

Gage Kundly tied the game for Carmichaels (2-3, 3-3) on a 10-yard run in the second quarter.

Parker Hewitt scored on runs of 6 and 10 yards.

University (W.Va.) 31, Connellsville 13 – The Falcons cut their deficit to four points in the third quarter, but visiting University responded with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a non-conference victory.

Connellsville slips to 2-5 and plays Uniontown next week.

University (3-3) led 17-0 at halftime.

Parker Lembo powered into the end zone from a yard out and Derek Routzahn added the extra point to slice the deficit to 17-7. Vonny McBride returned an interception 80 yards for a score, but the point-after was missed after a penalty was called and pushed the try back.

Northern Garrett (Md.) 58, Uniontown 6 – The Huskies improved to 3-3 with a non-conference win over the visiting Red Raiders.

David Ranitu led Uniontown (3-4) with 56 rushing yards and also scored the Red Raiders’ lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Meyersdale 42, Brownsville 8 – The Red Raiders evened their record at 4-4 with a non-conference win over the Falcons (0-6) at Redstone Field.

Neovae Jordan scored Brownsville’s lone touchdown with Elijah Booker running in the two-point conversion.
