Lady Warriors’ Morgan first-round lead in PIAA golf final

Morgan fired a 4-under 68 and holds a two-stroke lead over Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Rhianna Gooneratne entering Tuesday’s second and final round. York Suburban’s Vivienne Powers was the only other golfer to finish under par on the first day with 71.

Morgan shot 1-under 35 on the front nine with two birdies and one bogey, and closed strong with four birdies and a bogey for 3-under 33 on the back.

Belle Vernon junior Jordan Mocello is tied for 24th place in the Class AAA tournament after shooting an even-par 72. Mocello carded one bogey on the front nine and two birdies and a bogey on the back nine.

Cedar Crest’s Dylan Ramsey holds the first-round lead at 6-under 66. Peters Township’s Colton Lusk, the WPIAL champion, and Fleetwood’s Cameron Peffel trail by one stroke with both golfers shooting 5-under 67.

Elizabeth Forward sophomore Aaron Didjunas is tied for 13th place in the Class AA final with a first-round score of 2-over 74. Didjunas had an eagle, birdie and five bogeys on the Blue course.

Charleroi freshman Levi Large shot 6-over 78 and is tied for 34th place. Large carded one birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey.

Schuylkill Haven’s Alan Edwards and Quaker Valley’s Ethan Dai share the lead after the first round at 4-under 68.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy’s Madison Koshko leads girls’ Class AA tournament after shooting 1-over 73.
