Avonworth upends Waynesburg in girls volleyball playoffs

Avonworth handed sixth-seeded Waynesburg Central its first loss of the season, 3-0, eliminating the Lady Raiders in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA girls volleyball playoffs on Wednesday.

The 11th-seeded Lady Antelopes, who defeated Mohawk in a preliminary round match on Monday, won by scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-11.

South Park 3, Yough 0 – The Lady Eagles swept past Yough for a WPIAL Class AA first-round playoff victory.

South Park won by the scores, 25-21, 25-18, 25-15.

Mars 3, Albert Gallatin 0 – The Lady Colonials’ season came to an end with a loss to Mars in the opening round of the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.

Mars secured a straight-sets victory by the scores, 25-11, 25-13, 25-10.

Chartiers Valley 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – Laurel Highlands won the first set, 25-19, but the home squad rallied to win the next three for an opening-round victory in the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.

Chartiers Valley closed out the victory with the scores 25-10, 25-14 and 26-24.

Freeport 3, Ringgold 0 – Freeport swept past Ringgold for a WPIAL Class AAA first-round victory by the scores, 26-24, 25-15, 25-17.
