Bearcats advance to WPIAL Class A title soccer match
The Bentworth boys soccer team will defend their WPIAL Class A title after they shut out fourth-seeded Beaver County Christian, 3-0, Tuesday night in the semifinal match played at Canon-McMillan.
The top-seeded Bearcats (18-0-0) will play in the championship against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (15-0-0) on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
Bentworth holds a 17-0 scoring advantage in three WPIAL playoff matches.
Adam Moessner and Ryan Moessner scored in the first half to give Bentworth a 2-0 halftime lead. Dillan Colbert scored an insurance goal in the second half.
Colbert, Ryan Moessner and Billy Moyer all assisted on one goal.
“Feels great to get back to Highmark. This was definitely a result we were looking for,” said Bentworth coach Nicholas Malarbi. ” I’m so proud of this team for creating their own history and doing it without conceding more than four goals.
“This is an incredible season by our Bearcats. We will get ready for the match up against OLSH. We have a quick turn around to rest up and prepare.”
Girls volleyball
Quaker Valley 3, Southmoreland 0 – The sets were close, but the top seed prevailed in three sets over the Lady Scots in a WPIAL Class AA semifinal match played at North Allegheny.
Quaker Valley (17-2) swept to victory by the scores, 25-20, 25-17, 26-24. Southmoreland pulled even at 24-24 in the third set, but Quaker Valley won the last two points for the victory.
Southmoreland qualified for its first state tournament with the semifinal appearance. The Lady Scots will play Hopewell in the consolation final on Thursday.
