Smith nets winner in Falcons’ 3-2 OT victory

Matty Smith Jr. scored the game-winner just nine seconds into overtime to lift visiting Connellsville to a 3-2 victory at Knoch on Monday in PIHL D2 Division action.

Alex Boone gave the Falcons (2-1-1-0) the lead with his unassisted goal at 11:47 in the first period. Zach Weiland tied the game for the Knights (0-1-0-1) with a goal at 15: 18 in the second period.

Connellsville regained the lead when Evan Sokol scored at 4:30 of the third period. Mick Ritts tied the game at 11:15.

The Falcons’ Nick Daniels-Nimmick stopped 21 shots in the victory. Knoch’s Brody Lyle made 32 saves.
