Local roundup: Mikes hand Centurions first section loss

Colin Andrews hit a game-tying home run and Jordan Davis delivered a go-ahead run-scoring single in a two-run fifth inning that propelled Carmichaels past visiting Greensburg Central Catholic in Section 1-A baseball action Tuesday.

It was the Centurions (4-1, 6-2) first section loss of the season.

GCC led 1-0 until Andrews’ solo home run leading off the fifth made it 1-1.

Ryder Krieg reached on a two-out single, stole second and scored on Davis’ hit to put the Mikes ahead 2-1. Krieg gave Carmichaels an insurance run in the sixth when he drew a bases-loaded walk.

Winning pitcher Jas Zdravdky pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and six walks with six strikeouts.

Andrews also doubled for the Mikes (5-2, 6-3) and Robbie Wilson-Jones also doubled.

Losing pitcher Alec Martin gave up two runs on five hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts.

Connellsville 16, McKeesport 1 – Grayden Gillott went 4 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs, Noach Zawisian and Linkon Keller each drove in two and Jett Dunaway got the win as Connellsville (8-2, 4-1) rolled to a Section 4-5A win. Thomas Minnick doubled for McKeesport (0-11, 0-6).

Waynesburg Central 14, Seton LaSalle 5 – Jake Stephenson was 4 for 5 and CJ Corwin, Grant Pack and Ethan Kiger had three RBIs apiece as the Raiders remained unbeaten with a Section 4-3A win over the Rebels (4-3, 5-5).

Derek Turcheck added a double for Waynesburg (6-0, 10-0) and winning pitcher Austin Surber surrendered two earned runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings. Alex VanSickle gave up one earned run with six strikeouts in three innings of relief to earn the save.

Jefferson-Morgan 7, West Greene 3 – Jaymison Robinson had three hits and three RBIs in the Rockets’ Section 1-A win over the Pioneers (2-4, 3-8).

Winning pitcher John Woodward struck out seven in four innings and had three RBIs. Brayden Ellsworth finished up with three scoreless innings to earn the save for J-M (4-3, 5-3).

Elizabeth Forward 13, Belle Vernon 1 – Cy Herchelroath had five RBIs as the Warriors (5-1, 8-2) defeated the Leopards (6-2, 7-2) for the second day in a row in Section 2-4A action.

Connor Bergman and Cole Matusik each had a double for Belle Vernon.

Albert Gallatin 8, Laurel Highlands 4 – Winning pitcher Jason Myers doubled and singled and Michael Dunham had two hits and two RBIs as the Colonials (4-4, 4-5) defeated the Mustangs (0-6, 1-7) for the second day in a row.

Myers gave up one earned run on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Dunham finished up with two innings of scoreless relief.

Kanyon Sutton also had two hits for AG.

Seth Vecchiolla doubled and singled for Laurel Highlands which also got a double from Nick Crouch and two hits from Brody Kutchman.

Losing pitcher Noah Lion gave up one earned run on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 5 ⅔ innings.

Frazier 15, Chartiers-Houston 5 — Frazier put up a crooked number in each of the first four innings on its way to a victory in five innings over Chartiers-Houston in Section 1-2A.

Brady Gotfredson, Paul Williamson and Justus Buckingham had a double each for the Bucs (3-4, 5-4). Gotfredson drove in two runs.

Noah Bachinski and Chase Fulmer went 3 for 3 for the Commodores (2-4, 5-5). Bachinski had a pair of doubles.

Brownsville 8, McGuffey 6 — Jeremiah McDonald went 3 for 3 at the top of the order with a triple to help Brownsville top McGuffey in Section 4-3A.

The Falcons (3-5, 3-5) took advantage of four errors by the Highlanders (4-2, 7-4).

Sam Stout and Cameron Dames and Preston Hornack recorded two hits each for McGuffey. Wyatt Hildreth had three RBIs.

Bentworth 6, California 5 — Sam Wade had an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the sixth inning, which pushed across what proved to the winning run in a victory for Bentworth over California in Section 1-2A.

Wade went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs for the Bearcats (3-5, 3-6) and Ben Hayes had three hits, including a double and two RBIs.

Eli Carpenter had an RBI double, which gave California (4-1, 4-3) a 6-5 lead in the top of the fifth.

Burgettstown 8, Beth-Center 5 – Brian Charles doubled and knocked in four runs, William Stevenson drove in a pair of runs and Sam Elich doubled and had an RBI for Burgettstown (5-1, 4-1) in a Section 1-2A win. Eli Wright went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Beth-Center (2-6, 1-6). Jayden Roach got the win and Stevenson picked up a save for the Blue Devils.

Mount Pleasant 15, Yough 4 – Carter Strayer and Sonny Marne drove in three runs apiece and Cole Chatfield doubled to lead Mt. Pleasant (7-4, 6-2) to a Section 3-3A win. Jake Williams hit a double for Yough (2-6, 2-4).

Softball

Uniontown 10, Belle Vernon 5 – Emmaleigh Noah hit a home run, Di’Saya Craggette and Juliet White hit a double apiece and Lauren White drove in four runs to lead Uniontown (6-4, 4-2) to a Section 2-4A win. Mia Zubovic went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Belle Vernon (5-6, 3-2).

Brownsville 3, Waynesburg Central 2 – Pinch-runner Jordyn Davis scored the winning run for Brownsville (5-3, 2-1) on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh in a Section 4-2A win. Avery Davis went 3 for 3 with two doubles for Waynesburg Central (5-4, 2-1). Winning pitcher Ava Clark struck out 18 and allowed two runs on six hits for the Lady Falcons.

West Greene 21, Beth-Center 6 – Payton Gilbert went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Emmaline Beazell went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Madelyn Roberts tripled and drove in two runs for West Greene (9-1, 4-1) in a Section 2-A win. Kendall Welsh had a triple and four RBIs for Beth-Center (1-7, 1-3).

Baldwin 20, Connellsville 5 – Avery Herrington went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and five RBIs and Mackenzie Bowen and Reese Temme hit a home run apiece for Baldwin (10-2, 6-1) in a Section 4-5A win. Cali Leichliter went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for Connellsville (5-2, 1-2). Gabby Jaquay had two doubles and four RBIs for the Lady Highlanders.
