Glisan scores 1,000th point as AG routs Lady Raiders

YORK RUN – Mya Glisan had two goals in mind on Friday night.
First, she wasn’t about to let her Albert Gallatin girls basketball team lose to Uniontown for a second time this season.
Second, the Lady Colonials senior was going to score the 14 points she needed to reach 1,000 for her career when the opportunity to play in front of a huge crowd presented itself.
In the first game of a girls-boys doubleheader between Uniontown and Albert Gallatin at AG, the Lady Colonials easily avenged a 41-38 loss at Uniontown on Dec. 12 with an impressive 70-28 Section 4-AAAAA victory.
Glisan not only scored her 1,000th point but added 17 more for a career-high 31 on Senior Night.
“It felt amazing,” Glisan said. “I’ve got a lot of weight off my shoulders now.”
Glisan was happy to turn the tables on the Lady Raiders.
“We played them around the beginning of the season and we were out of shape and we all just played a terrible game,” Glisan said. “We came out ready tonight. We practiced hard and we were excited to play this time.”
AG coach Craig Hoone agreed.
“They’ve been working hard,” Hoone said. “Things have been improving from one practice to the next. They’re just willing to learn and work and tonight was the result of that.”
Albert Gallatin’s other two seniors, Grayce Panos, who like Glisan is a four-year starter, and Mitchell Turner, also turned in noteworthy performances. Panos rang up 21 points with one 3-pointer and Turner played a strong game inside.
“Grayce might have had a career high, too,” Hoone said. “She played very well, and Mitchell was tearing up on the boards. All three seniors did a good job tonight.”
Mikayla Shea added seven points for the Lady Colonials (1-6, 6-7).
Albert Gallatin took control from the start and never looked back. Glisan and Panos each scored eight points in the first quarter and Ellie Seese and Shea both hit a 3-pointer as the Lady Colonials stormed out to a 26-10 lead.
Glisan tossed in 13 more points in the second quarter, including a 3-pointer. She sank a fadeaway shot from the post for her 1,000 point with the game being halted to note her achievement. Paiton Lovis also made a 3-pointer in the quarter as Albert Gallatin cruised to a 46-17 halftime advantage.
Five different Lady Colonials made a 3-pointer during the game.
“AG shot the ball phenomenal tonight,” Uniontown coach Penny Kezmarsky said. “It just seemed like everything they threw up went in. They had the momentum of Senior Night and a big crowd. They went on a run real early and we never recovered from it.
“It was probably the loudest game we played this season and I think our team got a little frazzled.”
Freshman Charley Murtha led the Lady Raiders (1-6, 5-10) with nine points. Emily Myers and Disaya Craggette added six points apiece.
“Mkinli Baker was hurt and didn’t play tonight and that was a big detriment to our side, especially on defense,” Kezmarsky said. “She’s our motor on defense.”
Hoone reflected on Glisan’s career after the game.
“Mya kind of played a secondary role her first two years but the last two years she’s been pretty much the focal point of our offense,” Hoone said.
“Tonight was special because the team played so well and everybody really enjoyed seeing Mya get her 1,000th point.”
