Yellow Jackets softball team improves to 7-1

Meysa Hietmann went a combined 5 for 7 as Waynesburg University picked up two softball victories in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (7-1) thumped Bay Path, 18-1 in five innings, then defeated PAC rival Grove City, 3-2 in a walk-off win.

Hietmann was 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs in the opener and Dilyn Roberts was 3 for 3 with an RBI and three runs. Waynesburg also got a double, single, three RBIs and two runs from Belle DeMark, two hits and two RBIs from Breanna Rice and two hits from Grace Higgins.

Winning pitcher Pressley Meadows allowed one run on one hit with two walks and five strikeouts in four innings.

Heitmann was 2 for 4 and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Grove City, which tied the game with a run in the top of the inning.

Heitmann singled leading off the bottom of the seventh and went to second when Roberts walked. Sydney Wilson advanced the runners with a ground out and Rice brought in Heitmann on a fielder’s choice grounder.

Autumn Stemple earned the win in relief, giving up one unearned run on two hits with no walks and a strikeout in 3 ⅔ innings.
