Geneva pulls away for 62-20 win over Yellow Jackets
Geneva reeled off five consecutive touchdowns to break a 13-13 tie and went on to defeat Waynesburg University, 62-20, in a PAC football game Saturday at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Drew Pinkerton gave the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-5) a 6-0 lead with field goals of 22 and 27 yards to start the scoring. Geneva’s
Ryan Reitler countered with field goals of 42 and 43 yards for the Golden Tornadoes (4-1, 4-3) later in the quarter to forge a 6-6 tie.
Caleb Romano gave Geneva a 13-6 lead with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Keaton Baker early in the second quarter.
Waynesburg tied it on Luke Hudson’s 22-yard TD toss to Elija Jackson with 9:42 left in the half.
It was all Geneva after that.
David Reid and Romano scored on runs of 1 and 18 yards in the final two and a half minutes of the first half to give the Golden Tornadoes a 27-13 halftime lead.
Reid added another 1-yard touchdown run to begin the third and Romano threw touchdown passes of 25 yards to Damien Lacks and 64 yards to Luke Crumbacher to finish off the 35-point run by Geneva.
Kaden Ebron accounted for the Yellow Jackets’ final touchdown on a 75-yard run late in the third quarter.
Romano threw a 14-yard scoring pass to Seth Tyson early in the fourth quarter and Michael Egetoe notched the final TD for Geneva on a 2-yard pass from Will Patterson.
Romano threw for 373 yards and four touchdowns.
Ebron led Waynesburg with 116 rushing yards and Carson Shriver added 54 yards on the ground. Southmoreland graduate Isaac Trout had three receptions for 36 yards. Joanes Polynice had a team-high nine tackles.
