Another big name from the West Virginia University football roster has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Receiver Hudson Clement will test the portal waters, a development first reported by On3.com and confirmed by several other outlets.

A Clement departure would remove the leading receiver from WVU’s 2024 roster.

The redshirt sophomore from Martinsburg topped the Mountaineers in catches (51), yards (741) and touchdowns (five). His best game of the season by far came in WVU’s Frisco Bowl loss to Memphis, where he caught 11 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

Clement burst onto the scene in 2023 against Duquesne, catching five passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns. The former walk-on was awarded a scholarship after that game.

His career totals at WVU are 73 catches for 1,221 yards and nine touchdowns.

Clement is just the latest starter to enter the transfer portal following the firing of former head coach Neal Brown and the hiring of Rich Rodriguez to return to WVU.

Other players with starting experience in the portal include running back C.J. Donaldson, offensive linemen Tomas Rimac and Johnny Williams, corner Ayden Garnes and linebackers Trey Lathan and Josiah Trotter. Trotter, the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, already has signed with Missouri.

Entering the portal is not a guarantee that a player is leaving, but it does give other programs the opportunity to contact the player and give that player the chance to test the market. The fall portal window for football players closes Dec. 24.
