Lady Raiders down host team in KSA Tournament
The undefeated Waynesburg Central girls started slow, but picked up the tempo for a 42-29 over host Winter Park (Fla.) in the KSA Tournament.
The Lady Raiders (8-0) led 8-6 after the first quarter and padded their lead to 24-13 at halftime. Waynesburg held an 18-16 advantage in the second half.
Kaley Rohanna paced Waynesburg with a game-high 15 points. Peyton Cowell had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Maliyah Lockhart led Winter Park (10-3) with eight points. Tyler Seay finished with seven points.
Geibel Catholic 55, Neighborhood Academy 8 – The Lady Gators routed the host team behind the scoring of Emma Larkin and Ava Henderson.
Larkin poured in 39 points, while Henderson chipped in 14.
Aamira Abdul-Waalee led Neighborhood Academy with five points.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 42, Belle Vernon 26 – The Lady Leopard trailed at halftime, 22-8, and were not able to rally in the final 16 minutes for a loss in the Cal U Hoopfest.
Kenzi Seliga led Belle Vernon (4-4) with 10 points. Caroline Lee grabbed 12 rebounds.
Claudia Ierullo had game-scoring honors for Our Lady of the Sacred Heart with 16 points.
Uniontown 52, Springdale 23 – The Lady Raiders rolled out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter on their way to a victory in the King Coal Lions Tournament at Carmichaels.
Uniontown led 26-8 at halftime and held a 26-15 in the second half.
A’Kira Dade led the way for the Lady Raiders with 25 points. Geeleece Ingram finished with 15 points.
Ashlyn Ferderbar and Bella George both scored five points for Springdale.
Boys wrestling
Ringgold 64, John Glenn 10 – The Rams opened the Wheeling Park Duals at Highlands Sports Complex with a convincing victory.
Andrew Bruce (106), Nico Bove (126), and Camden Barkey (138) received forfeits.
Justin Steingrabe (113), Evan Tolliver (120), Tanner Shawl (150), Caden Smith (165), Jake Conroy (215), and James Holmes (285) all won by fall.
Jack Duncan (157) secured a major decision, and Cristian Lowther (144) and Owen Conroy (190) won decisions.
Waynedale 52, Ringgold 21 – The Rams had a rougher go in the second round of the day with a loss to Waynedale.
Camden Barkey won by fall at 138 pounds. Cristian Lowther had a 10-3 decision at 144 pounds and Tanner Shawl eked out a 5-4 decision at 150 pounds. Gavin Mincin won by a 9-7 decision at 175 pounds.
Alex McCartney had a first-period pin at 190 pounds, as did Jake Conroy at 215 pounds.
Ringgold 37, Washington (Ohio) 34 – The Rams edged the Prexies in the third round of the tournament.
Justin Steingrabe received a forfeit at 113 pounds.Evan Tolliver (120), Tanner Shawl (150), and Jack Duncan (157) all won by fall. Jake Conroy had a major decision at 215 pounds.
Nico Bove (126), Cristian Lowther (144), and Owen Conroy (190) won by decision.
Boys basketball
Greensburg Central Catholic 61, Yough 37 – The Centurions led 29-17 at halftime and the Cougars were unable to rally in a loss on the opening day of the Greensburg Salem Christmas Tournament.
Terek Crosby and Austin Matthews shared team-scoring honors for Yough (5-2) with 11 points apiece.
Tyree Turner scored a game-high 23 points for Greensburg C.C. (8-1). Franco Alvarez finished with 13 points and Liam Gallagher added 11.
Monessen 58, Propel Braddock Hills 34 – The Greyhounds’ Lorenzo Gardner and Timothy Kershaw combined for 40 points to lead the host team to a win in the Delvin Miller Memorial Tournament.
Gardner scored a game-high 27 points for Monessen (5-1), while Kershaw finished with 13 points.
The Greyhounds held quarter leads of 23-6, 49-14 and 53-25.
Micah Kirkland and Elijah Toole both scored eight points for Propel Braddock Hills (3-5).
