Rockets rally past Raiders in Greene County showdown

Jefferson-Morgan rallied for a non-section victory over Waynesburg Central in a battle of Greene County on Monday in boys basketball action.
The Rockets (10-4, 15-7) trailed 21-13 after the first quarter, but outscored the Raiders, 20-13, in the second period to cut the deficit to 34-33 at halftime.
Jefferson-Morgan clung to a 48-47 lead after the third period, but a 23-15 advantage in the fourth quarter put the game away.
The Rockets’ Jeremiah Robertson scored a game-high 21 points. Teammate Dayten Marion added 17 points. Houston Guesman put in 14.
Alex VanSickle led Waynesburg (7-3, 9-12) in scoring with 20 points. Cole Headlee had 14 and Dane Woods 11. Austin Surber put in 10.
Headlee had six assists and the Raiders’ Jack Ricciuti pulled down seven rebounds.
Girls basketball
Waynesburg Central 59, California 39 — Peyton Cowell had a double-double in the Lady Raiders’ victory over the Lady Trojans in non-section play.
Cowell scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Teammate Chatham Knight added 12, and Briena Coon and Mya Smith put in 10 points apiece.
Olivia Gibson led California (7-3, 11-7) in scoring with 14 points.
Waynesburg (4-8, 10-12) had an 11-8 lead after the first quarter and a 28-21 halftime advantage. The Lady Raiders outscored the Lady Trojans, 31-18, in the second half.
Mount Pleasant 48, Derry 19 — Ryleigh Drzal and Grace Arrigo were in double figures to help lead the Lady Vikings to a non-section win.
Drzal had 15 and Arrigo 11 as Mount Pleasant (5-9, 6-15) had a 10-6 lead after the first quarter and a 29-10 halftime advantage.
Swimming
Boys: Uniontown 85, Belle Vernon 59; Girls: Uniontown 71, Belle Vernon 64 — Uniontown swept a Section 5-2A meet over Belle Vernon at Uniontown Area High School’s Natatorium.
Despite the team loss, the Leopards’ Brady Malekovich, Tim Reda and Gaige Watson each won two individual events and two relay races.
The trio was joined by Derek Milkovich to win the 200-yard medley relay in a WPIAL-qualifying time of 1:52.86. The quartet won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.06, which was also a WPIAL cut.
Malekovich won the 100 freestyle in 52.60 and the 100 backstroke in 1:04.58. His time in 100 freestyle hit the WPIAL-qualifying standard.
Reda hit the WPIAL cut in winning the 200 IM in 2:12.85. He topped the field in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.70 to earn another time under the WPIAL-qualifying standard.
Watson won the 500 freestyle in a WPIAL-qualifying time of 5:28.23. He won the 50 freestyle in 24.69.
The Red Raiders’ Chase King won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.74 and teamed with Donte Rugola, Rocco Furrer and Chase Brumley to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.42.
Uniontown’s Cameron Soltis won the 100 butterfly in 1:07.36. Teammate Wyatt Dean scored 204.85 to win the diving competition in a WPIAL-qualifying score.
The Lady Red Raiders’ Eleanor Carei won the girls diving competition in 206.75, which was good enough for a WPIAL cut, even though Carei has already hit the mark.
Uniontown’s Joss Rutter won the 50 freestyle (26.76) and 100 backstroke (1:07.27). She was joined by Hannah Foster, Addy Martin and Grace Trimmer to win the 200 medley relay in a WPIAL-qualifying time of 2:01.14.
The Lady Leopards’ quartet of Josie Nikolic, Ava Bosetti, Megan Shusteric and Grace Newbould finished second but hit the WPIAL cut.
Martin, Carei, Emma Young and Trimmer won the 200 freestyle relay in 2:06.44.
Foster won the 100 breaststroke in a WPIAL-qualifying mark of 1:12.54.
Nikolic (2:23.29) and Bosetti (2:24.44) went 1-2 in the 200 IM. Both hit a WPIAL cut.
Shusteric won the 200 freestyle in a WPIAL-qualifying time of 2:06.10. She teamed with Newbould, Bosetti and Nikolic for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay in a WPIAL standard of 4:03.19.
Newbould won the 100 butterfly (1:15.23) and the 500 freestyle (6:58.53). Bosetti won the 100 freestyle in 59.32.
