Tharp’s 40 leads Bulldogs to 74-64 victory

Brody Tharp poured in 40 points Tuesday night to lead Beth-Center to a 74-64 non-section victory over visiting California.

Tharp his seven 3-pointers for his game-high total.

Beth-Center (1-2) led 15-14, 33-28 and 53-39 at the quarter breaks.

Jonah Sussan and Santino Revi both scored 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Jaquese Derns (18), Noah Neil (15), and Vinny Manzella (14) all finished in double figures for the Trojans (0-1).

Uniontown 87, Connellsville 32 – Four Red Raiders finished in double figures in a non-section road win over the Falcons.

Jamire Braxton led the way for Uniontown (2-0) with 20 points. Jeremiah Hager scored 17, Notorious Grooms finished with 16 and Calvin Winfrey added 12 in the victory.

Anthony Piasecki scored nine points for the Falcons (0-3).

Elizabeth Forward 67, Plum 58, OT – The Warriors held a 15-7 advantage in the overtime period for a non-section road win over the Mustangs.

Elizabeth Forward (1-1) held a 30-24 lead at halftime, but Plum tied the game in the third quarter.

Tyler Basic paced the Warriors with 23 points. Isaiah Turner finished with 21 points.

Owen Proskin scored a game-high 27 points for the Mustangs (1-2), Will Beckner added 14 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 42, Bentworth 29 – The Rockets pulled away in the fourth quarter for a non-section victory at home.

Jefferson-Morgan led 25-21 after three quarters and then outscored the Bearcats in the fourth quarter, 17-8.

Dayten Marion scored 15 and Houston Guseman added 11 for the Rockets.

Ross Skerbetz led Bentworth with 11 points.

Waynesburg Central 64, Carmichaels 37 – The Raiders led 34-20 at halftime and didn’t slow down for a non-section victory at Carmichaels.

Alex Vansickle scored a game-high 20 points for Waynesburg. Cole Headlee and Dane Woods both scored 15 points. Dane Woods grabbed 14 rebounds and Headlee had seven assists.

Monessen 56, Charleroi 54 – The Greyhounds led 45-41 entering the fourth quarter, and then held off a late rally for a non-section road victory.

Monessen (1-0) led 27-25 at halftime.

The Greyhounds’ Lorenzo Gardner scored a game-high 18 points. Rodney Johnson finished with 12 points.

Bryce Large led the Cougars (0-3) with 17 points. Jacob Chambers and Brock Henderson scored 11 points apiece.

Belle Vernon 64, Steel Valley 53 – The Leopards scored 22 points in the first quarter and 18 in the last quarter for a non-section road win.

Zion Moore led Belle Vernon (1-1) with a game-high 27 points. Tommy Davis and Trevor Kovatch finished with 15 points each. Tommy Davis pulled down 11 rebounds and Kovatch dished out eight assists.

Nyhjir Norris (16), Nate Yuhas (12), and Rashun Howgh (11) scored in double figures for the Ironmen (0-3).

South Allegheny 79, Albert Gallatin 48 – The Gladiators scored 29 points in the first half on their way to a non-section road victory.

South Allegheny (3-0) held quarter leads of 29-12, 46-17 and 65-34.

Blake White scored 17 points and Mykel Belt finished with 16 for Albert Gallatin (1-2).

Mike Michalski scored a game-high 20 points for South Allegheny. Drew Cook (18), Cam Epps (13), Shane Rudberg (12), and Jeston Beatty (12) also scored in double figures.

Southmoreland 60, Greensburg Salem 28 – The Scotties rolled to a non-section home win over the Golden Lions.

Southmoreland (2-0) led 17-1 after the first quarter and 38-14 at halftime.

Ty Keffer led the way for the Scotties with a game-high 30 points. Noah Felentzer added 10 points.

Ryan Burkart and AJ Tarpley both scored five points for Greensburg Salem (1-2).

Yough 51, South Park 41 – Terek Crosby scored 30 points to lead the Cougars to a non-section road victory.

Austin Matthews finished with 11 points for Yough (3-0).

Danny Batista scored 18 points and Luke Scarff added 11 for the Eagles (2-1).

West Greene 55, Avella 52 – Avella’s fourth-quarter rally fell short in a non-section road loss at West Greene.

The Pioneers (1-0) led 29-24 at halftime and 42-34 after three quarters.

Lane Allison (20), Parker Burns (14), and Matthew Wassil (13) combined for 47 points for West Greene.

Westley Burchianti led the Eagles (1-2) with 17 points. Bryce Wright scored 13.

Girls basketball

Yough 57, East Allegheny 11 – The Lady Cougars returned home with a non-section victory.

Yough (3-0) rolled out to a 31-4 lead in the first quarter and increased the advantage to 42-4 at halftime.

Hailey Bock scored 21 points and Autumn Matthews finished with 11 points for the Lady Cougars.

Ronniya Lawrence led the Lady Wildcats (0-3) with nine points.

Brownsville 66, Frazier 41 – The Lady Falcons led 39-19 at halftime and didn’t look back for a non-section road win.

Skyler Gates scored a game-high 26 points for Brownsville (3-1). Ava Clark added 17 points.

Allie Yauch paced the Lady Commodores (2-1) with 17 points.

Charleroi 55, South Allegheny 46 – The Lady Cougars held a 14-point lead after the first quarter and made the advantage stand for a non-section road victory.

Bella Carroto led Charleroi with a game-high 23 points. Camryn Russell scored 15 points and Riley Jones added 10 in the victory.

Gabi Jackson scored 15 points for South Allegheny.

Geibel Catholic 47, Propel Braddock Hills 25 – The Lady Gators’ Emma Larkin outscored the home team for a non-section road victory.

Larkin finished with 32 points for Geibel (2-1). Propel Braddock Hills’ Moya Johnson scored eight points.

Elizabeth Forward 43, Trinity 40 – The Lady Warriors rallied in the fourth quarter for a non-section home victory.

Elizabeth Forward (2-1) outscored Trinity in the final eight minutes, 17-9.

Chloe Zombak led the Lady Warriors with 17 points. Sam Horne finished with eight points for Trinity (1-1).

Hockey

Ringgold 12, Knoch 5 – The Rams netted seven goals in the second period for a PIHL D2 Division road victory Monday night at Knoch.

Ringgold’s Matt Sylvester scored a hat trick in the second period. Phil Quarttrone scored two goals, and Anthony Bonari and Donnie Tustin scored one apiece.

Bruce Santina and Benito Pesi combined to give the Rams (3-3-0-1-1) a 2-1 lead in the first period.

Caden Doran, Bonari and Owen Haywood scored in the third period for Ringgold.

Ringgold converted 2-of-5 power play opportunities.

The Rams’ Collin Moffett made 13 saves. Knoch’s Colbon Baptiste had 12 saves and Straton Muskco stopped 18 shots for the Knights (3-6-0-0-0).

Boys swimming

Belle Vernon 60, West Mifflin 37 – Brady Malekovich (200 freestyle), Gaige Watson (200 IM, 500 freestyle), Tim Reda (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Brian Nguyen (100 backstroke), 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay all had first place finishes for the Leopards in a non-section win.

Girls swimming

Belle Vernon 87, West Mifflin 69 – Martyna Maley (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Megan Schusteric (200 IM, 100 butterfly), Ava Bosetti (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Melina Stratigos (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relays touched the wall first for the Lady Leopards in their non-section victory.

Bosetti, Schusteric and the 200 freestyle relay met the WPIAL qualifying standard for Belle Vernon ( 3-1).
