Local roundup: Colonials fend off Rams; Frazier rallies past Pioneers

Albert Gallatin built an early 10-point lead and stayed in front the rest of the way in defeating host Ringgold, 66-56, in a non-section boys basketball game on Thursday night.

Mykel Belt scored a game-high 18 points for the Colonials (2-2).

Albert Gallatin led 19-9 after the first quarter but the Rams (1-2) fought to within 29-25 at halftime. The Colonials maintained their lead throughout the third quarter and were up 49-43 heading into the final frame. AG put the game away with a 17-13 edge in the fourth quarter.

J.J. Jackson (13), Blake White (11) and Tyrone Burton (10) also hit double digits for Albert Gallatin.

Aidan Angotti and Keyshawn Goggins both scored 16 points for Ringgold and Daryle Tolliver added 12 points.

Frazier 36, West Greene 30 – Darian Bateman scored a game-high 14 points and Dailan McManus followed with 11 as the Commodores used a strong fourth quarter to earn their first win of the season in a non-section game at West Greene.

Frazier (1-3) led 9-7 after the first quarter but the Pioneers (1-1) pulled even at 18-18 by halftime and took a 26-23 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Commodores outscored the hosts 12-4 in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

Lane Allison scored 12 points for West Greene.

Cheswick Christian Academy 54, Geibel Catholic 39 – Mike Miller scored 16 points and Gary Tarbuk added 13 but it wasn’t enough as the Gators fell to CCA in a non-section game.

Grant Rochkind led Cheswick Christian with 19 points and Brady Rochkind had 15.

Derry 66, Connellsville 55 – Nate Papuga tossed in 31 points to help the Trojans beat the host Falcons in a non-section game.

Stanley Rajkocich and John Wasnick added 18 and 10 points for Derry (2-1).

Anthony Piasecki tallied 15 points for Connellsville (0-4) and Jayden McBride had 13.

Girls basketball

Brownsville 43, Beth-Center 28 – Ava Clark led all scorers with 20 points as the Lady Falcons defeated the host Lady Bulldogs in a non-section clash.

Skyler Gates added 16 points for Brownsville which improved to 4-1.

Violet Trump totaled nine points and 10 rebounds for B-C (2-2) which also got eight points and seven boards from Kyleigh McDaniel.

Belle Vernon 56, California 43 – Kenzi Seliga hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points as the Lady Leoaprds pulled away in the fourth quarter for a non-section win over the visiting Lady Trojans.

The score was tied 15-15 after the first quarter before Belle Vernon (2-1) surged to a 32-25 halftime advantage. California (1-1) got within 39-34 after three quarters but the Lady Leopards used a 17-9 edge in the final frame to secure the victory.

Caroline Lee had 10 points for Belle Vernon.

The Lady Trojans were paced by Rakiyah Porter with 18 points and Hayley Gibson with 10.

Waynesburg Central 80, Frazier 14 – Kaley Rohanna led a group of four Lady Raiders in double figures with a game-high 21 points in a non-section win over the visiting Lady Commodores.

Waynesburg exploded for 40 points in the first quarter and cruised home from there.

Peyton Cowell added 14 points for the Lady Raiders (4-0) who also got 11 points from Avery Davis and 10 from Emma Kindervater.

Allie Youch provided almost all the offense for Frazier (2-2) with 10 points.

West Mifflin 48, Connellsville 26 – Savaughn Wimbs outscored the host Lady Falcons by herself with 32 points in the Lady Titans’ non-section win.

Bailey Liska paced Connellsville (2-1) with 13 points. West Mifflin evens its record at 2-2.

McGuffey 58, Uniontown 18 – The Lady Highlanders jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and pulled away from there for a non-section win over the host Lady Raiders.

Taylor Schumacher led the way for McGuffey (3-0) with 18 points and Lexi Ewig had 13.

Geelece Ingram topped Uniontown in scoring with 11 points.

Mount Pleasant 32, Yough 28 – The Lady Vikings edged the visiting Lady Cougars in a non-section game despite a game-high 19 points from Yough’s Autumn Matthews.

Riley Gesinski led Mount Pleasant (3-1) with 10 points. The Lady Cougars fall to 3-1.

Serra Catholic 59, Elizabeth Forward 52 – Abby Genes’ 27 points sparked Serra Catholic to a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Warriors.

Cate Clark added 12 points for SC (4-0).

Chloe Zombek led EF (2-2) with 14 points.

Burrell 54, Southmoreland 14 – Casey Brancato had 15 points as host Burrell (2-0) beat the Lady Scotties (0-3) in a non-section game.
