Local roundup: Burrell holds off visiting Falcons, 3-1
Burrell scored the last two goals of the game Monday night for a 3-1 victory over visiting Connellsville in PIHL D2 Division action.
Chantz Watkins scored the only goal — and only power play goal — of the game just 24 seconds into the second period to give the Bucs (5-2-0-0-0).
Burrell’s Julian Kemp added an insurance goal with 10:06 left in the game.
Burrell’s Aidan Petroff opened the scoring 11:04 into the first period. Connellsville (1-6-0-0-0) answered quickly when Jesse Hodges set up Ian Zerecheck for the tying goal 47 seconds later.
Connellsville was 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Bucs scored once in four chances.
The Falcons’ Nick Daniels-Nimick made 33 saves and Burrell’s Kooper Price stopped 21 shots.
Women’s basketball
California (Pa.) 82, Lincoln 68 — The Vulcans won for the fourth time in as many home games with a non-conference victory over the Lions.
Sierra Bermudez led the way for California with a game-high 22 points off the bench. She also had six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Iyahnna Williams scored 15 points with four rebounds and four assists. Allycia Harris contributed 10 points, and Nina Shaw finished with 11 points and a season-high eight assists.
Ciani Montgomer led Lincoln (2-1) with 16 points.
