Local roundup: Westminster women defeat visiting Waynesburg
The Westminster women pulled away in the third quarter for a 64-52 victory Tuesday over visiting Waynesburg in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.
The Titans (2-1, 3-2) had a 7-2 run at the end of the second quarter for a 25-23 lead at halftime.
Waynesburg (0-2, 0-5) pulled into a 33-33 tie with 4:22 left in the third quarter, but Westminster finished the quarter with a 13-2 run for a 46-35 lead.
Kara McFadden finished with nine points and eight rebounds to lead Waynesburg. Kayla Howard also score nine points.
Men’s basketball
Westminster 67, Waynesburg 66, OT — The Yellow Jackets were unable to hold a six-point lead in the final three minutes as the Titans rallied to tie the game to force overtime for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference home win.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1, 3-2) led 59-53 with 2:56 remaining in regulation, but the Titans forced overtime on a 3-pointer with 41 left. Westminster and Waynesburg both had an opportunity to tie the game before the buzzer.
Waynesburg led by four points with 12 seconds remaining in overtime. However, Westminster (1-2, 2-3) scored with five seconds left and converted a turnover into the game-winning basket.
Westminster led 31-26 at halftime and built its lead to 10 points in the second half before Waynesburg rallied for the lead.
Waynesburg’s Jaylen Davis finished with his first double-double with a team-high 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Antone Baker had his second straight double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
