Lucy, Trimmer take top running honors in Turkey Trot

The Uniontown cross country team, past and present, was well represented Thursday morning with the men’s and women’s running titles in the annual Uniontown Turkey Trot 5k.

Nathan Lucy, a 2021 graduate, had a comfortable lead on the field with his first-place finish in 16:51.

Matthew Mansfield, 24, wasn’t too far behind in second place with a time of 17:11.

Connellsville junior Noah Lindstrom closed for third place with a time of 17:19. Laurel Highlands junior Matt Schwertfeger, the reigning county champion, placed fourth in 17:29, with Uniontown grad Mason Stewart fifth

overall in 17:38.

Trimmer continued her strong running at the end of the fall season with her winning time of 19:59. Trimmer won the FCCA title, placed third in the WPIAL and was seventh in the state meet.

Ohiopyle’s Payton Hostetler was second in 20:33. Former champion Jenner Hoffman, a WPIAL cross country champion for Brownsville, placed third in 20:45.

Trimmer’s teammate Emily Angelo was fourth with a time of 21:45. Penn State Fayette runner and Connellsville graduate Chloe Kalp, of Melcroft, rounded out the top five with a time of 21:51.

Buddy Segal pulled into the lead of the walk just before the mile mark and maintained the advantage for a first-place finish in 32:13.

Mount Pleasant’s Jacynth Drumhiller successfully defended her women’s title with a time of 34:31, with Uniontown’s Bethany Radcliffe finishing second in the women’s walk and third overall in 34:46.

Monroeville’s Don Slusser pulled into fourth overall in the final half-mile to place second behind Segal in 35:19.

Connellsville’s Jim Downey was the third male finisher and fifth overall with a time of 35:32.

Pamela Hughes (37:16), Susan George (38:20), and Maria Chury (38:44), all of Uniontown rounded out the top-five female finishers.

Leisenring’s George Zubeck was the fourth male finisher with a time of 37:55 and Uniontown’s Ralph Warman placed fifth in 38:19.

Over 900 runners and walkers gathered for the 17th running of the Turkey Trot, with the proceeds benefitting the Uniontown Salvation Army.
