Local softball roundup: Lady Raiders outslug Fillies, 13-9

Lauren White delivered three run-scoring hits in totaling four RBIs and Graci Rodeheaver was 4 for 5 to help propel Uniontown past host Laurel Highlands, 13-9, in Section 2-AAAA softball action on Tuesday.

Ava Livingood doubled and singled twice for the Lady Raiders (1-1, 1-2) who also got three hits from Lily Byrd, a solo home run from winning pitcher Emmaleigh Noah and two hits from Addison Handlin.

Noah allowed five earned runs with no walks and six strikeouts.

Niaha Dillard blasted a pair of home runs in going 3 for 4 and Lindsay Klink hit a solo homer for Laurel Highlands (0-3, 0-4) which also got a double and a single from Harlie Dirda, two hits from Kayla Howell and a double from Emelia Cavaliere.

White smacked an RBI double in the first inning, a two-run single in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh.

Uniontown jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Fillies battled back and went ahead 7-4 with four runs in the fourth.

The Lady Raiders surged back in front with a six-run sixth to go up 10-7, then tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh after LH got within one by plating two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Izzy Coleman, who had an RBI single, took the loss for the Fillies.

Brownsville 6, Seton-LaSalle 3 – Ava Clark threw a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Zaydee Downer knocked in four runs with a home run and a double as the Lady Falcons defeated the host Lady Rebels in a Section 4-AAA game.

Brownsville (1-0, 2-2) scored two runs in the first, three in the fifth and one in the sixth in building a 6-1 lead. Seton-LaSalle scored twice in the bottom of the seventh.

Clark issued only two walks in going the distance.

Kiara Cerminara tripled and doubled for the Lady Rebels (0-1, 1-3). Losing pitcher Gianna Ferrieri struck out eight and walked two.

West Greene 14, Jefferson-Morgan 5 – Emmaline Beazell was 4 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and four runs as the Lady Pioneers beat the host Lady Rockets in a Section 2-A game.

Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert struck out seven and walked one and also reached base four times with a double and three walks and scored three runs for West Greene (1-0, 2-2).

The Lady Pioneers also got a pair of doubles and five RBIs from Ella Scott, a double, single and three RBIs from Samantha Zimmerman and two hits and an RBI from Ali Goodwin.

West Grene scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to take an 8-0 lead and stayed in control the rest of the way.

Brooklyn Snyder was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Jefferson-Morgan (0-1, 0-3) which also got doubles from Kayla Larkin and Sayde Stickovich. Losing pitcher Emilee Bazzoli struck out three and walked six.

Frazier 16, Bishop Canevin 0 – Addison Hiles fired a five-inning no-hitter and Malana Burton had two hits and three RBIs as the Lady Commodores clobbered the host Lady Crusaders in a Section 3-A game.

Hiles walked two and struck out seven and also contributed a single, RBI and run scored.

Grace Vaughn doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Grace Polkabla had two hits and scored four runs for Frazier (1-0, 1-0) which also got two RBIs from Claire Domonkos who was 1 for 1 with three walks. Jayanna Ciferno chipped in with a hit, RBI and three runs scored.

Lia Pilarski was the losing pitcher for Bishop Canevin (0-1, 0-3).

Belle Vernon 7, Ringgold 4 – Bella Williams had two doubles and an RBI and Gracie Sokol drove in two runs with a pair of singles to key the Lady Leopards’ Section 2-AAAA victory over the visiting Lady Rams.

Belle Vernon broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and hung on from there.

Winning pitcher Lily Crawford allowed one earned run on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts in five innings. Maddie Grasnik gave up one run in two innings of relief to earn the save.

Lauren Van Divner and Katie Sokol both doubled and singled for Belle Vernon (2-1, 7-1) which also got two hits and an RBI from Grisnik and a single and an RBI from Taylor Beech.

Ringgold scored twice in the top of the first but the Lady Leopards answered with three in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Rams tied it with a run in the top of the fifth, Belle Vernon went back ahead with a run in the bottom of the inning and Ringgold pulled even again with a run in the top of the sixth.

Losing pitcher Dani Vecchio doubled for Ringgold (0-1, 0-3) which got three hits apiece from Camryn Bucci and Annie Pelissero.

Albert Gallatin 6, Greensburg Salem 2 – Avery Walls threw a three-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts as the Lady Colonials topped host Greensburg Salem in a Section 2-AAAA game.

Maggie Quertinmont and Mia Myers and the only hits for Albert Gallatin (2-0, 2-1) with also got two RBIs from Tatum Durst.

The Lady Colonials scored three runs in the first and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Losing pitcher Ali Scarfa and Patty Redinger both doubled for the Lady Lions (0-1, 2-4). Scarfa struck out 10 but walked six.

Yough 1, Ligonier Valley 0 – Kylee Fisher did it all for the Lady Cougars in their Section 3-AAA victory over the visiting Lady Rams.

Fisher fired a five-hit shutout and supplied the only run of the game with a solo home run as Yough improved to 1-0 in the section and 2-0 overall.

Fisher struck out five in out-dueling losing pitcher Cheyenne Piper who struck out eight and gave up just two hits. Ligonier Valley falls to 0-1 in the section and 3-1 overall.

Chartiers-Houston 19, California 0 – The Lady Bucs took advantage of 11 walks and six hit batters in rolling to a Section 2-A win over the host Lady Trojans (0-3, 0-5).

Mackenzie Shumar doubled and Meadow Ferri singled twice for Chartiers-Houston (2-0, 4-1) with scored 10 runs in the first inning.
