Local softball roundup: Clark pitches Brownsville past Waynesburg
Brownsville’s Ava Clark came out on top in a pitchers’ duel with Gina Tedrow as the Lady Falcons took a tight 1-0 win over visiting Waynesburg Central in a Section 4-AAA softball battle on Tuesday.
Rylie Bednar scored the game’s only run on a passed ball in the fourth inning.
Clark fired a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as the Lady Falcons improved to 2-2 in the section and 3-4 overall.
Tedrow struck out nine and allowed just one hit, a single to Bednar, in suffering the tough loss.
Ellie Makel doubled for the Lady Raiders (1-2, 3-6).
Connellsville 6, Bethel Park 1 – Kirra Davis drove in three runs with a double and a single and Iris Burd had a single, two RBIs and was the winning pitcher as the visiting Lady Falcons beat the Lady Black Hawks in a Section 4-AAAAA game.
Burd allowed three hits and struck out five.
Cali Leichliter had a run-scoring single for Connellsville (3-1, 7-3) and Molly Greenawalt singled twice.
Bethel Park falls to 2-3 in the section and 4-6 overall.
Ringgold 12, Albert Gallatin 11 – Dani Vecchio hit a pair of doubles as the Lady Rams edged the host Lady Colonials in a Section 2-AAAA game.
Hailey Robertson and Addison Jenkins also doubled for Ringgold (1-3, 1-5).
Mia Myers tripled and doubled for Albert Gallatin (1-3, 1-4).
Elizabeth Forward 20, Greensburg Salem 0 – The unbeaten Lady Warriors scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning on their way to a lopsided five-inning Section 2-AAAA win at Greensburg Salem.
Carlee Soukup homered, singled and drove in three runs and Berlyn Holibaugh had two hits and three RBIS for Elizabeth Forward (5-0, 7-0) which also got two hits from Hannah Evans.
Winning pitcher Shelby Telegdy tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
Sam Reusser took the loss for Greensburg Salem (1-4, 3-7).\
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 6, Charleroi 4 – The Lady Chargers rallied from a 4-1 deficit with three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to defeat the host Lady Cougars in a Section 3-AA game.
Camryn Hummell doubled and came home on Elizabeth Smith’s sacrifice fly to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth. Morgan O’Brien hit a home run and Lilli Wamsley was the winning pitcher for OLSH (4-0, 6-2).
Kaylee Sypolt homered and doubled for Charleroi (3-2, 6-2). Sofia Celaschi took the loss.
Mapletown 12, Avella 10 – The host Lady Maples built a 9-0 lead and survived a Lady Eagles rally to earn a Section 2-A win.
Winning pitcher Devan Clark struck out 15 and Mapletown (2-1, 2-3) got doubles from Alexis Perry and Marly Seward.
Haleigh Rush doubled for Avella (0-3, 3-4). Avery Ado was the losing pitcher.
Monessen 18, Bishop Canevin 2 – Winning pitcher Joey Hurst had three hits and three RBIs and Grace Clingenpeel contributed two hits and four RBIs as the Lady Greyhounds pummeled the host Lady Crusaders in a three-inning Section 3-A game.
Monessen (2-1, 2-2) scored eight runs in the first inning and added seven in the second and three in the third.
Cam Lokaitis hit a double and drove in two runs for Bishop Canevin (0-3, 0-5). Lia Pilarski took the loss.
