Local baseball roundup: Red Raiders bounce back, defeat Colonials
Wyatt Nehls smacked three hits, including a pair or doubles, and knocked in three runs as Uniontown bounced back from a 5-3 home loss to Albert Gallatin on Wednesday with a 9-2 win on the Colonials’ field Thursday in Section 2-AAA baseball action.
The win pulls the Red Raiders (3-3, 4-5) into a third-place tie with AG (3-3, 3-8).
Austin Grego also had three hits and drove in two runs and Tate Musko tripled, singled and scored twice for Uniontown which also got two hits, four runs and three stolen bases from Cameron Jackson.
Winning pitcher Brayden Hinzy allowed one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in four innings. Ethan White gave up one unearned run on one hit in tossing the final three innings to earn the save.
The score was tied 1-1 after two innings but the Red Raiders put three runs in both the third and fifth to take a 7-1 lead.
Luke Wilson singled twice and Parker Lilley had an RBI for Albert Gallatin. Alex Dolobach was the losing pitcher.
Ringgold 5, Belle Vernon 4 – Alex Kolano’s two-run single sparked a three-run seventh inning to help the Rams rally past the host Leopards in a Section 2-AAA game.
Kolano had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs as Ringgold (1-4, 3-6) handed Belle Vernon (4-1, 7-2) its first section loss and kept its playoff hopes alive.
Jimmy Nash pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win and Andrew Sprinkle doubled and recorded the final out with the potential tying and winning runs on base to notch the save for the Rams.
Parker Lind doubled twice and Adam LaCarte doubled, singled and drove in two runs for Belle Vernon which also got two hits from Lucas Judy. Alex Nash took the loss in relief of Parker, who gave up two runs in six innings.
Waynesburg Central 11, Brownsville 0 – Kory Taylor had two hits and three RBIs and Austin Surber threw a four-hitter as the visiting Raiders remained unbeaten with a five-inning Section 4-AAA win at Brownsville.
Alex VanSickle had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, Nick Willard added a hit and three RBIs and Derek Turcheck doubled and singled for Waynesburg (5-0, 6-0) which also got two hits and three runs from Ethan Kiger and a double from Trenton Zupper.
Surber struck out five and walked one in tossing the shutout.
Ben Vojacek and Rylan Johnson each hit a double for the Falcons (0-8, 0-8). Gene Thorpe took the loss.
Bentworth 4, Frazier 3 – Winning pitcher Lucas Burt struck out 13 in 4 2/3 innings and John Scott contributed a double, RBI and run scored as the host Bearcats held off the Commodores in a Section 2-AA game.
Burt allowed five hits and one earned run while walking two before being relieved by Jacob Burt who gave up one unearned run on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts to earn the save.

Tyler Morrison singled twice and Tyler Monack doubled for Frazier (2-3, 4-6).
Losing pitcher Brock Alekson surrendered four runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in going the distance.
Fort Cherry 15, Carmichaels 5 – Colton Temple drove in four runs with a double and two singles and Ben Demascal had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs as the host Rangers handed the Mikes their first loss of the season in a six-inning Section 1-A game.
Luke Sweder doubled twice, winning pitcher Ryan Huey and Matt Sieg both doubled and singled and Dylan Lueck also had two hits for Fort Cherry (4-1, 6-1).
The Rangers built a 6-2 lead after three innings and held a 11-5 advantage when they scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to induce the mercy rule.
Huey allowed four runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in four innings.
Liam Lohr had two hits and two RBIs for Carmichaels (4-1, 6-1).
Nathan Beringo took the loss for the Mikes who used five pitchers.
The result left Carmichaels, Fort Cherry and Avella (5-1, 6-1) all with one loss in the section.
West Greene 11, Cameron (W. Va.) 2 – Colten Thomas stole five bases to go along with two hits and two runs scored as the host Pioneers rolled past Cameron in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Morgan Kiger had 11 strikeouts for West Greene (5-2) which has won five in a row.
Hunter Evans singled twice and drove in a run for the Dragons (15-5).
Mount Pleasant 7, McGuffey 0 – Luke Nicotera tossed a three-hitter as the visiting Vikings blanked the Highlanders in a Section 4-AAA game.
Nicotera struck seven. C.J. Nestor had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Mount Pleasant (5-1, 7-4).
McGuffey falls to 3-3 in the section and 3-4 overall.
Washington 12, Monessen 0 – Ayvvari Chandler knocked in four runs with a double and a triple and Caleb Patton threw a one-hitter as the Prexies cruised past the host Greyhounds in a non-section game.
Joe Wilson homered and doubled and Iain Callan and Kyle Bainer both doubled and singled for Washington (5-4) which also got two hits and two RBIs from William Callan, a triple from Patton and a double from Isaac Charnik.
Patton walked two and struck out 14.
Losing pitcher R.J. DiEugenio had the lone hit for Monessen (0-9).
