Local baseball roundup: Angotti, Koziel lead Rams over LH, 5-2
Gavin Angotti knocked in three runs with a pair of singles and Anthony Kozier threw a complete game to lead visiting Ringgold to a 5-2 victory over Laurel Highlands in a Section 2-AAAA baseball game on Monday.
The Rams built a 5-0 lead with two runs in the third, a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Devan Krivosky, who doubled and singled, knocked in both of the Mustangs’ runs in the sixth inning.
Koziel gave up three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Jimmy Lanzi added a double for the Rams (2-5, 4-7).
Krivosky allowed two runs in 3 ⅔ innings with six walks and four strikeouts in taking the loss. Connor D’Amico doubled for Laurel Highlands (0-7, 0-10).
Latrobe 2, Uniontown 1 – Winning pitcher Dom Cararini hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to keep the Wildcats (7-0, 11-1) perfect in Section 2-AAAA with a nail-biting victory over the visiting Red Raiders.
Austin Grego took the loss in relief but contributed a double and single for Uniontown (3-3, 4-5).
Tate Musko pitched six shutout innings for the Red Raiders, surrendering only one hit and four walks with 10 strikeouts.
Charleroi 16, Frazier 7 – Brock Henderson and Dylan Klilnger both had two hits and three RBIs as the visiting Cougars out-slugged the Commodores in a Section 1-AA game.
Jace Pager had two hits and two RBIs and Jake Beveridge also knocked in two runs with a single for Charleroi (5-2, 7-2) which also got two hits and two RBIs from Kaden Woods. Corrin Jake was the winning pitcher.
Dalian McManus knocked in two runs with a double for Frazier (2-5, 4-8).
Belle Vernon 11, Albert Gallatin 3 – Adam LaCarte and Alex Nash both hit home runs and had two RBIs as the visiting Leopards defeated the Colonials in a Section 2-AAAA game.
Colton Lee earned the win and Lucas Judy added a double and two RBIs for Belle Vernon (6-1, 9-2).
Cyrus Potkul had a double and an RBI for Albert Gallatin (2-4, 2-9).
Bethel Park 7, Connellsville 1 – Noah LeJeune hit two home runs in Bethel Park’s Section 2-AAAAA win over the visiting Falcons.
Santino Diulus also homered and was the winning pitcher for Bethel Park (5-2, 7-4-1).
Grayden Gillott hit a double for Connellsville (3-4, 6-7).
Carmichaels 14, Avella 3 – Liam Lohr knocked in three runs with a double and two singles and was the winning pitcher as the visiting Mikes knocked the Eagles out of first place in Section 1-A.
Mason Lapana contributed two doubles and three RBIs for Carmichaels (5-2, 7-2).
Losing pitcher Isaiah Bradick had a run-scoring single for Avella (6-2, 7-2).
Jefferson-Morgan 21, Mapletown 2 – Brock Bayles tripled, singled and had four RBIs in the Rockets’ five-inning Section 1-A win over the host Maples.
John Woodward had three hits, including a double, and Joseph Bair, Even Kniha, Jaymison Robinson and Colin Bisceglia also doubled for J-M (2-6, 4-6).
Winning pitcher Drew Adams walked four and struck out six in going the distance.
Jeremiah Mick doubled for Mapletown (0-6, 2-8). Spencer Yeager took the loss.
Waynesburg 14, Southmoreland 3 – Winning pitcher Tyler Groves hit a two-run triple and Derek Turcheck had a double and three RBIs for the undefeated Raiders (7-0, 9-0) in a Section 4-AAA win over the visiting Scotties.
Ty Keffer and Cole Teets had RBIs for Southmoreland (2-7, 2-9).
Burgettstown 8, Bentworth 5 – Brodie Kuzior and Carson Tkalcevic knocked in two runs apiece as the Blue Devils topped the host Bearcats in a Section 1-AA game.
John Scott doubled and singled twice for Bentworth (2-7, 2-8).
Chartiers Valley 3, Elizabeth Forward 2 – Nate Magilson singled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Chartiers Valley (5-2, 7-2) a walk-off win over the visiting Warriors.
Joe Crovak hit a double for EF (2-5, 5-6).
Eden Christian 15, Monessen 0 – Caleb Emswiler had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs as Eden Christian (9-0, 10-2) rolled past the Greyhounds in a Section 3-A game.
Josh Walters hit a double for Monessen (0-6, 0-10).
Fort Cherry 8, West Greene 3 – Matt Sieg knocked in a pair of runs with a pair of singles as the Rangers took over first place in Section 1-A with a win at West Greene.
Colten Thomas was 4 for 4 for the Pioneers (4-3, 5-3) who had won five in a row.
McGuffey 7, Brownsville 5 – Ryan Keith had two hits and two RBIs in the Highlanders’ Section 4-AAA win over the host Falcons.
Samuel Stout had three hits, including a double, for McGuffey (4-3, 4-4).
Hunter Pelehac homered and Harlan Davis doubled and drove in two runs for Brownsville (0-9, 0-9).
Mount Pleasant 10, Yough 2 – Brady Painter doubles, singled and knocked in two runs in the Vikings’ Section 4-AAA victory over the host Cougars.
Cole Chatfield, Ryan McKula and Connor Drzal each contributed a double and an RBI for Mount Pleasant (6-1, 8-4). Jacob Kitz was the winning pitcher.
Chris Begonia doubled for Yough (4-2, 4-6).
