Falcons win Tom Best Memorial Top Hat Tournament
Connellsville crowned three champions and had 11 place winners in winning the Tom Best Memorial Top Hat Tournament on Saturday at Williamsport High School.
The Falcons scored 220.5 points to defeat Easton, who had 212.5 points. Saucon Valley was third with 187.5 points.
Tommy Gretz pinned all four of his opponents to win the championship at 107 pounds. Three of four of Gretz’s matches ended in the first period.
Kai Vielma won the championship at 139 with a pin, two technical falls and a 10-1 major decision in the finals.
Evan Petrovich earned technical falls in all four of his bouts to earn the championship at 152.
Nolan Rice placed third after winning by injury default over teammate Zachary Franks at 121.
Lonzy Vielma earned a 5-2 decision in the third-place bout at 160.
Freshmen Jake Lilley (4th at 133) and Luke Lilley (5th at 127) finished on the podium.
Christopher Cook was fifth at 215 after earning a fall in his placement bout.
Landon Lynn (114) and Julian Ruggieri (145) took seventh.
North Coast Classic
Elijah Brown and Deydon Soto went undefeated in the North Coast Classic at Independence, Ohio, on Saturday.
Brown went 7-0 at 190 pounds and Soto was 8-0 at 138.
Gracin Guglielmo placed second at 106 after finishing 5-1 in the round-robin format and placement matches.
Kole Doppelheuer was third at 152 after finishing 6-1. Connor Hoffman was fifth at 160 after winning six out of eight bouts. Colby Hibner took sixth at 145.
