Frazier’s Angelo, Erdely win titles at Southmoreland Holiday Classic

Jackson Angelo had a much easier time, while teammate Jonah Erdely was pushed in his championship bout, but both Frazier wrestlers came away with a title in the Southmoreland Holiday Classic that concluded Saturday evening at Southmoreland High School.
Angelo won four of his five matches by fall, including a pin in the finals at 172 pounds, to earn the championship in his first year wrestling in the event, while Erdely won 4-3 decisions in the semifinals and finals to secure the gold medal at 152. Erdely had to win six bouts over the two-day tournament that featured 33 teams.
Angelo improved his record to 17-0 this season and 89-18 during his career. Erdely is 18-0 this year and has a career mark of 65-16. He was limited to 15 matches last season because of an injury. Both wrestlers are juniors.
The Commodores’ Ryan Celaschi placed third at 160.
Frazier was ninth in the team standings with 116.5 points. The Commodores were the third among WPIAL Class 2A schools behind Freedom (131) and Burgettstown (120.5).
Beth-Center’s Alex Medlen dropped a 4-3 decision in the finals at 144 to finish as runner-up. The Bulldogs’ Geoffrey Douglas (107) and Mason Wright (133) placed sixth. Teammate Geno Orlandi was seventh at 145.
Albert Gallatin’s Julius Poole earned an eighth-place finish at 121.
The host school had one placewinner in Landon Delara, who was fourth at 172.
Mount Pleasant’s Stephen Predajna dropped a 10-1 major decision to Celaschi, and finished in fourth place at 160. The Vikings’ Tristan Wtorkiewicz was sixth at 145.
Albert Gallatin, Beth-Center and Frazier will wrestle Friday and Saturday in the TriCADA tournament at West Greene High School.
Penn Hills Holiday Tournament — Brownsville had four wrestlers reach the podium in Saturday’s tournament at Penn Hills High School.
The Falcons’ Mike Ulery earned the bronze medal in placing third.
Maddox Cooper and Cynsier Douglas were fourth and Devin Drake took sixth.
Brownsville returns to action Friday and Saturday in the TriCADA.
