CANONSBURG — Connellsville’s Janayah Nobles wrestled a solid tournament Monday at the Powerade Girls Christmas Tournament at Canon-McMillan High School.

Nobles, who recorded a pin, decision and technical fall on her way to the 136-pound final, dropped a 7-0 decision to Kiski Area’s Ava Golding to finish second in her final time wrestling at Powerade as a senior.

Golding has been a thrown in Nobles’ side since last year, as the Lady Cavalier junior improved to 6-0 against Nobles in their matches, but the Lady Falcon junior continues to close the gap.

“I keep getting closer each match,” Nobles said. “It is definitely a confidence booster to wrestle her this close. I love this sport, and everything I do is for this sport. It is great to see the sport grow, and when you go to a school like Connellsville that is known for wrestling, doing well in wrestling is so awesome.”

Nobles placed fourth at Powerade last year, and looks forward to the rest of the season. She has also committed to Wilkes University, where she will continue her academic and wrestling careers. Wilkes’ program will begin in the 2025-2026 season.

“I can’t wait to do this sport another four years after high school,” Nobles said. “It is great that we have a girls team at Connellsville and can wrestle in dual meets. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Connellsville was second in the team standings with 106 points behind Canon-McMillan, who had 127.5. Kissimmee Osceola, Fla., finished third with 84 points.

The Lady Falcons’ Imani Cameron-Botti placed fourth at 155 and teammate Trinity Moore was fifth at 118.

Southmoreland’s Zoey Murphy was third at 235. Teammate Rylee Mains was sixth at 112.

Albert Gallatin’s Jenna Chapman won by fall for fifth place at 235.
