Red Raider swimmers remain perfect in section

Uniontown split a Class 2A Section 5 meet at Elizabeth Forward on Thursday with the boys winning, 91-89, and the girls falling, 97-63.

The Red Raiders remain perfect in Class 2A Section 5 play.

Uniontown had three individual winners in the boys meet, as Wyatt Dean earned a victory in the diving competition with 143.50 points. The Red Raiders’ Donte Rugola won the 100-yard freestyle in 55.34. Teammate Chase King was the first to touch the wall in the 500 freestyle in 5:28.36. King has qualified for the WPIAL championship meet in the 500-yard freestyle.

Addy Martin and Hannah Foster won two individual events apiece, and teamed up to earn a victory in the 200-yard medley relay for the Lady Raiders.

Martin won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.89 and the 100 butterfly in 1:05.14. Foster won the 100 freestyle (58.96) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.02). The duo teamed with Joss Rutter and Grace Trimmer for a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:00.27.

Eleanor Carei won the diving competition with a score of 174.55. Carei has qualified for the WPIAL championship meet.

Foster has hit the WPIAL cut in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Rutter has qualified for the WPIAL meet in the 200 IM.

Boys: Ringgold 95, Laurel Highlands 60; Girls: Ringgold 93, Laurel Highlands 65 — The Mustangs suffered a team setback against the Rams in Class 2A Section 5 action, but had two individuals win three events in Lincoln Metheney and Kasey Mahoney.

Metheney swam WPIAL-qualifying times in winning the 200 freestyle (1:59.19) and 500 freestyle (5:21.96). Mahoney also hit WPIAL cuts in winning the 200 IM (2:05.73) and 100 freestyle (49.85).

Mahoney, Metheney, Joey Mohar and Aidan Swaney won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:59.38.

Addie Ciez won the girls 100 backstroke in 1:09.65 and the 100 butterfly in a WPIAL-qualifying time of 1:04.65.

Boys wrestling

Connellsville 67, Chartiers Valley 3 — The Falcons racked up 10 falls in downing the Colts in non-section action.

Connellsville’s Tommy Gretz (107), Landon Lynn (114), Nolan Rice (121), Daniel Smith (127), Kai Vielma (139), Julian Ruggieri (145), Evan Petrovich (152), Lonzy Vielma (160), Christopher Cook 215) and Roghan Hillis (285) recorded pins.

The Falcons’ Cooper Lembo won by major decision, 12-1, at 172. Teammate Nicholas Seese earned a decision in sudden victory at 189.

Connellsville improved to 6-1 this season.

Belle Vernon 40, South Fayette 27 — The Leopards’ Elijah Brown won his 100th-career match in Belle Vernon’s non-section victory over the Lions.

Brown earned his fall at 215. Teammates Deydon Soto (139), Connor Hoffman (145), Kole Doppelheuer (152) and Skylar Gush (172) all won by fall for the Leopards.

The Leopards’ Enzo Ortolona earned a 17-5 major decision at 114. Teammate Gracin Guglielmo won by forfeit at 107.
