Colonials earn title at USC Panther Duals
Albert Gallatin went 6-0 to win the USC Panther Duals on Saturday at Upper St. Clair High School.
The Colonials (12-6) defeated Erie (53-21), Hopewell (39-31), Fort Cherry (54-12), Summit Academy (58-12), Upper St. Clair (49-17) and Riverview (59-6).
Roman Smith (189/215) pinned all six of his opponents to score 36 team points for Albert Gallatin. Teammate Colin Rockwell (285) was also 6-0 with four falls and two forfeits.
The Colonials’ Gavin Morris (107) and Bryce Kelley (127) won six matches apiece, as Kelley had five pins and one forfeit, and Morris had two falls and four forfeits.
Nick Hillyard (172/189) scored 33 team points for AG with three falls, two forfeits and a decision. Teammate Greyson Morris had 32 with two falls, two technical falls, a major decision and forfeit in the 114-pound weight class.
The Colonials’ Alex Kinsley (121), Julius Poole (133/139) and Kage Churby (160) all went 5-1. Reese Williams was 4-1 while wrestling at 133 and 139.
Albert Gallatin is scheduled to host Waynesburg Central on Wednesday in a non-section dual meet at 7:30 p.m. before the Colonials turn their attention to the individual portion of the season on Feb. 14 when their compete in the WPIAL Class 3A East Sectional tournament at Norwin High School. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
In the Gateway Tri-Meet, Brownsville’s Anthony Dulaney (133) earned a major decision, 11-2, in the Falcons’ dual meet against the hosts.
GIRLS WRESTLING
NORTH ALLEGHENY INVITATIONAL — Connellsville had six placewinners and finished 10th in the team standings after the two-day tournament wrapped up on Saturday at North Allegheny High School in Wexford.
The Lady Falcons’ Trinity Moore (16-3) was the runner-up at 112.
Connellsville’s Olivia Shultz (15-7) was fifth at 155. Teammates Julieth Flores (13-5), Alison Leon (13-7) and Ravyn Cameron-Botti (17-3) were sixth at 100, 106 and 190.
The Lady Falcons’ Jayden Wiltrout (19-9) was seventh at 148.
Beth-Center senior Bailey Bernot (18-3) dropped a 2-1 decision to Kiski Area’s Alyssa Tresco in the finals at 170.
Mount Pleasant’s Riley Ritenour (15-9) was fourth at 130.
BOYS BASKETBALL
EDEN CHRISTIAN 62, GEIBEL CATHOLIC 49 — The Warriors pulled away from the Gators in the second half of a non-section game on Sunday in the Shootout at Saint Vincent College.
Eden Christian (15-4) had a 27-24 lead at halftime before outscoring Geibel Catholic, 15-13, in the third period, and 20-12 in the fourth frame.
The Warriors jumped out to a 19-8 advantage at the end of one quarter. The Gators (9-9) won the second period, 16-8, to work their way back in the contest.
Eden Christian’s Mason Dean scored a game-high 26 points. Teammate Michael Sample had 13.
Seth Dolan keyed Geibel’s offensive output with 19 points. Evan Strimel and John Hess had 12 points apiece.
