Ranae Mohrbacher scored four goals and assisted on another to help lead Freedom to a 7-2 victory over Bentworth on Wednesday in the third-place consolation match in Class A at Peters Township High School.
The Lady Bulldogs (21-1) advance to the PIAA tournament, while the Lady Bearcats’ season comes to a close at 18-3.
Mohrbacher scored the first two goals on tremendous individual efforts at 28:33 and 15:59 of the first half.
Freedom continued to put on the pressure and extended its advantage to 3-0 when Myah Hrinko directed in a shot off a corner kick at 14:50.
Bentworth cracked the scoreboard at 12:31 when senior Paige Marshalek scored on a penalty kick to the left of Lady Bulldogs keeper Morgan Swab.
Freedom regained its three-goal lead when defender Carissa Morseer scored on a long kick from 45 yards out, and the Lady Bulldogs took a 4-1 advantage into halftime.
Reagan Schreiber scored the first goal of the second half to bring the Lady Bearcats within two at 30:16 of the second. Schreiber’s tally came from 30 yards out.
Mohrbacher helped her team get back to a three-goal lead when she set up sister, Julia Mohrbacher, with a beautiful pass at 21:17 of the second half.
Senior Jocelyn Timlin nearly got Bentworth back to a two-goal deficit, but her shot was wide at 17:25 before Ranae Mohrbacher scored the last two tallies at 9:14 and 2:29.
