The Connellsville Legion needed an extra inning Friday night, but the effort paid off with a 9-5 road victory at Colonial 3 in Fayette County American Legion Baseball League action.
Connellsville (9-5) improves to 7-2 in Legion play with its third victory in as many days. Colonial 3 slips to 3-6.
Connellsville forced extra innings with a single run in the top of the seventh inning and then plated four runs in the top of the eighth to secure the road victory.
Jason Cooper drove in two runs in the bottom of the second inning to give Colonial the early lead, but Connellsville cut the lead in half in the top of the third.
DJ Zimcosky extended the home team's lead with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.
Connellsville chipped away at the deficit with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Caleb Dillon pitched the final three innings to earn the win, striking out three.
Cade Warrick, Kyle Ridley and DJ Farkas all doubled for Connellsville. Ridley added a pair of singles and drove in three runs. Tanner Orndorff finished with three singles, while Cole Shearer and Farkas both had two hits.
Ricky Marucci took the loss. Nick Kenney and Mike Petrock both had two singles for Colonial.
Uniontown 14, Carmichaels 1; Uniontown 13, Carmichaels 1 -- Uniontown remained unbeaten with a doubleheader sweep of Carmichaels with both games called due to the mercy rule.
Uniontown (7-0) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull away in the opening game.
Kaleb Scott struck out four and walked three to win the opener.
Dylan Bohna had a single and double, and drove in a team-high three runs. Santino Marra doubled and singled twice in the victory. Nick Kumor went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Nate Zimcosky legged out a triple, added a pair of singles and scored two runs.
Kumor struck out 10 and walked three to win the nightcap. He also doubled.
Chad Petrush tripled and drove in three runs. Scott and Zack Hoffler both doubled in the victory. Marra, Scott and Bohna all had two hits.
Carmichaels slips to 0-10.
Belle Vernon 7, Waynesburg 2 -- Waynesburg led 1-0 after the first inning, but visiting Belle Vernon plated four runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull away with a Fayette American Legion road victory.
Belle Vernon (6-3) moved into the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning and added a solo run in the top of the fourth, but Waynesburg came back with a solo run in the bottom of the inning.
Max Gauden went four innings for the victory, striking out one. He also drove in four runs.
Jared Hartman, Bobby Boyer and David Szerszen all had two hits for Belle Vernon.
Waynesburg slips to 2-7.
Smithfield-Fairchance 3, Farmington 1 -- Nate Bricker and Jeremy Saliba allowed only eight hits between them, but Bricker's squad produced just enough runs for the Fayette American Legion road victory.
Bricker struck out five and allowed three hits in the complete-game victory. He also had one of Smithfield-Fairchance's five hits.
Smithfield-Fairchance (5-4) scored first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Farmington (5-3) scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the visitors responded with a single run in the top of the seventh.
Jason Thoresen and Creed Potkul had an RBI for Smithfield-Fairchance.
Saliba also went the distance, striking out two in the tough loss.
