Cole Shearer hit a three-run home run in the first inning and that’s all the offense Alan VanSickle needed in Mill Run’s 5-1 victory over the Fayette Raiders on Tuesday in Fayette County Baseball League play at Mill Run Park.
Austin Petraglia reached on an error and Nolan Porterfield singled before Shearer’s blast to left field gave the Millers (4-0) a 3-0 lead. Shearer also had a single.
VanSickle didn’t allow a run on one hit in five innings. He had three strikeouts and walked one.
Dakota McWilliams had one of his two hits in the sixth when a double drove in a run for Mill Run. Teammate Hayden Harvey had an RBI on a fielder’s choice to extend the home team’s advantage to 5-1.
The Raiders scored their lone run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Josh Davison had two strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter, but took the loss.
The Millers return to the diamond today when they travel to play the BDE Bandits at Perryopolis Athletic Field before visiting Carmichaels on Thursday for a rematch of the last three championship finals. Both games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
