The wait is over for the California baseball team, as well as the Mount Pleasant and West Greene softball squads, when the WPIAL playoffs resume Monday with the quarterfinal round.

The Trojans (15-1) are the top seed in Class A, and play Eden Christian (11-8) in the quarterfinals at Greater Latrobe High School at 4 p.m.

Waynesburg Central is scheduled to follow the California game at 6 p.m. when the Raiders (12-5) play top-seeded Freeport (13-5) in the Class AAA quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Lady Vikings (15-0) face Ringgold (8-8) in a Class AAAA quarterfinal match-up at 3 p.m. at Seton Hill University.

Albert Gallatin (11-7) seeks a return to the Class AAAAA semifinals when the Lady Colonials face top-seeded Penn-Trafford (17-1) in a quarterfinal game following the Mount Pleasant-Ringgold game at 5 p.m. Albert Gallatin lost a pair of one-run games to Penn-Trafford, 5-4 and 9-8, in Section 1-AAAAA play.

The Lady Pioneers (16-4) begin their quest for a fourth-straight WPIAL Class A title when they play Greensburg Central Catholic (10-7) in the quarterfinals at Trinity Middle School with first pitch scheduled at 6 p.m.

Jefferson-Morgan (10-6) faces Sewickley Academy (9-3) at 4 p.m. at the same site.

Other WPIAL quarterfinal baseball games on Monday include: Blackhawk (14-4) vs. Mount Pleasant (10-8), at Fox Chapel, 2 p.m.; Steel Valley (10-8) vs. Beth-Center (8-9), at West Mifflin, 2 p.m.; Yough (12-5) vs. South Park (14-7), at West Miffin, 4 p.m.; and Neshannock (16-2) vs. Carmichaels (16-2), at Burkett Complex, 6 p.m.

The remaining slate of quarterfinal softball games Monday include: Vincentian Academy (15-1) vs. Frazier (15-3), at Peters Twp., 2 p.m.; Connellsville (14-6) vs. Trinity (14-4), at Peters Twp., 4 p.m.; Thomas Jefferson (14-3) vs. Yough (13-5), at Peters Twp., 6 p.m.; Elizabeth Forward (14-3) vs. Indiana (12-8), at Gateway, 5 p.m.; Avonworth (17-2) vs. Southmoreland (10-6), at North Allegheny, 5 p.m.; and Laurel (17-2) vs. Carmichaels (14-5), at Montour, 3 p.m.

The Laurel Highlands baseball team wraps up quarterfinal action on Tuesday when the Mustangs (12-6) face fourth-seeded Hampton (12-6) in the Class AAAAA playoffs at the Burkett Complex at 4 p.m.
