Local roundup: Larkin scores 35 as Lady Gators top Carmichaels
Emma Larkin poured in 35 points to propel host Geibel Catholic past Carmichaels, 45-34, in non-section girls basketball action on Thursday night.
The Lady Gators (4-2) led 11-9 after the first quarter and 21-18 at halftime, then outscored the Lady Mikes 14-8 in the third and 10-8 in the fourth to gradually pull away for the victory.
Alayna Simon and Arianna Plaxi each scored 10 points for Carmichaels (1-4).
Brownsville 52, Jefferson-Morgan 20 – The Lady Falcons got a game-high 17 points from Ava Clark and 16 from Skyler Gates on their way to a non-section win over the host Lady Rockets.
Brownsville, which improved to 6-1, led 15-5, 30-12 and 45-16 at the breaks.
Jefferson-Morgan falls to 1-4.
Waynesburg Central 57, West Greene 14 – Peyton Cowell recorded a double-double and the unbeaten Lady Raiders put four players in double figures on their way to a non-section victory at West Greene.
Kaley Rohann led Waynesburg (6-0) with a game-high 18 points and was followed by Avery Davis (12), Cowell (11) and Josie Horne (10). Cowell also had 10 rebounds.
Kendra Tharp scored five points for the Lady Pioneers (1-5).
Beth-Center 57, Frazier 27 – Emma Shashura tossed in a game-high 21 points and Lauren Brown added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs cruised past the visiting Lady Commodores in a Section 4-AA game.
Kyleigh McDaniel chipped in with six points and 13 rebounds for Beth-Center (1-0, 3-3).
Allie Yauch paced Frazier (0-1, 3-4) with 16 points.
Thomas Jefferson 45, Albert Gallatin 28 – Laekyn Flinn scored 17 points in the Lady Jaguars’ Section 3-AAAAA victory at Albert Gallatin.
Thomas Jefferson (1-0, 2-3) took a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and stayed in control the rest of the way.
Mya Glisan led the Lady Colonials (0-1, 1-4) with 10 points.
West Mifflin 42, Belle Vernon 41 – Ken Lee scored 15 points and Savaughn Wimbs followed with 14 as the Lady Titans nipped the host Lady Leopards in overtime in a Section 3-AAAA battle.
Saylor Lee turned in a double-double for Belle Vernon (0-1, 3-2) with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Nina Francia chipped in with 10 points.
The Lady Leopards went up 8-6 in the first quarter, but West Mifflin (1-0, 3-3) fought back to take leads of 21-16 at halftime and 33-23 after three quarters.
Belle Vernon stormed back and went up 38-37 late in the fourth quarter but Kendra Lee made one of two free throws to tie it and force OT.
Wimbs and Neural Palms had the Lady Titans’ two baskets in the extra frame while the Lady Leopards’ three points came on two foul shots by Saylor Lee and one by Francia.
Elizabeth Forward 56, Ringgold 20 – Alyssa Terza scored a game-high 15 points at the Lady Warriors topped the visiting Lady Rams in a Section 3-AAAA game.
Elizabeth Forward rolled to a 22-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Mia Sostaric added 13 points for EF (1-0, 4-2).
Kamryn Webb had 10 points for Ringgold (0-1, 1-4).
Chartiers-Houston 45, California 36 – The Lady Bucs fought off the host Lady Trojans in a Section 4-AA clash.
Chartiers-Houston led 11-7, 25-12 and 34-23 at the quarter breaks.
Amelia Brose and Ava Carpozzoci paced the Lady Bucs (1-0, 3-2) with 14 and 13 points.
Rakiyah Porter rang up a game-high 25 points for California (0-1, 1-4).
Washington 63, Bentworth 45 – Kaprice Johnson tallied 24 points and Olivia Woods scored 23 as the Lady Prexies beat the host Lady Bearcats in a Section 4-AA game.
Washington (1-0, 1-3) led 11-7 after the first quarter then pushed their lead out to 31-15 by halftime and 50-29 after three quarters.
Ambee Sallee totaled 16 points and nine assists for Bentworth (0-1, 1-5) and Kayla O’Dell grabbed nine rebounds.
Penn-Trafford 55, Connellsville 23 – The Lady Falcons opened Section 3-AAAAA play with a loss to the visiting Lady Warriors.
Penn-Trafford (1-0, 5-1) led 16-3, 28-15 and 45-15 at the quarter breaks.
Maggie Orndorff led Connellsville (0-1, 2-4) with seven points.
Olivia Pepple paced Penn-Trafford with a game-high 16 points. Hannah Weishaar scored 11 points and Elle Visco added 10.
Boys basketball
West Greene 57, Waynesburg Central 53 – Lane Allison racked up a game-high 27 points to key the Pioneers’ non-section victory over the visiting Raiders.
West Greene (2-2) jumped out to a 17-5 advantage in the first quarter but Waynesburg (2-4) rallied in the second to pull within 26-23 at halftime. The Pioneers used a 16-10 edge in the third quarter to go up 42-33 and hung on from there.
Patrick Durbin contributed 13 points for West Greene.
Alex Vansickle was one of three Raiders to hit double digits in scoring with 17 points. Cole Headlee added 12 and Jackson Dean had 11 while Alex Eck grabbed 15 rebounds.
Frazier 55, Jefferson-Morgan 41 – The Commodores jumped out to an early lead and stayed in front the rest of the way in defeating the visiting Rockets for their third win in a row after an 0-3 start.
Dalian McManus led all scorers with 25 points for Frazier (3-3). Brock Alekson and Brennen Stewart added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Commodores led 14-6, 21-16 and 40-31 at the breaks.
Dayton Marion scored 14 points for J-M (5-2) and Houston Guesman followed with 12.

Mt. Lebanon 795-55x, Waynesburg Central 785-42x – The teams competed virtually with the Blue Devils securing the non-section win.
Faithlyn Vukmanic was the top scorer for the Raiders with 100-6x. Emily Burnfield also hit the center mark with a score of 100-5x.
Logan Crouse (99-8x), Emma Lawson (98-6x), Abbi Kidd (98-6x), Carrigan Henry (98-5x), Joe Withrow (96-4x), and Wyatt Franklin (96-2x) rounded out the scoring for Waynesburg.
Mt. Lebanon’s Sarah Jamison had medalist honors with 100-9x. Sigmond Kukla (100-7x), Elise Stock (100-8x), Adam Burich (100-6x), and Beyza Sendl (100-7x) also scored 100.
