Here is the latest SEC sports news from The Associated Press
UNDATED (AP) — Jalen Milroe’s game continues to evolve, and Alabama keeps on winning. It’s certainly no coincidence. The quarterback led the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide to its seventh straight win. Milroe went toe to toe with LSU star Jayden Daniels both with his arm and his legs to lead the Tide to a 42-28 win over the 18th-ranked Tigers. Alabama tailback Roydell Williams thinks Milroe should be considered a Heisman Trophy contender. The Bama quarterback rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns in that game while passing for 219 yards.
UNDATED (AP) — Southern California dropped out of The Associated Press college football poll for the first time in more than two years and Oklahoma State vaulted into the rankings for the first time this year at No. 15. The top nine teams in the Top 25 held their spots, led by No. 1 Georgia. The Bulldogs have now tied the second-longest streak atop the poll at 21 straight weeks, dating back to the middle of last season. Georgia received 49 first-place votes. No. 2 Michigan got nine first-place votes, No. 3 Ohio State had three and No. 4 Florida State had two.
UNDATED (AP) — Women’s college basketball is starting in big way with a game in Paris after a season of growth that featured increases in both in-person attendance and those watching on TV. No. 6 South Carolina will take on 10th-ranked Notre Dame in the City of Light not far from the Eiffel Tower on Monday. It’s the first NCAA regular-season game overseas and will showcase the game to an International audience. Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley has pushed for such games and is excited to be at the forefront of another milestone. Tipoff is 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Brittney Griner stood in the middle of her U.S. national women’s teammates lined up as the public address announcer ticked off the reserves and then the starters. Fans roared when Griner’s name came over the speakers. The only other U.S. player with a similar ovation was five-time Olympic gold medalist Diana Taurasi despite playing for UConn and the Tennessee Lady Vols’ biggest rival. Sunday night marked Griner’s first time playing a game with “USA” on the front of her jersey since celebrating winning her second Olympic gold medal in August 2021 at the Tokyo Games. The reception equaled her excitement at representing her country once again.
