UNDATED (AP) — Reigning AP national player of the year Zach Edey is a unanimous selection on The Associated Press preseason All-America team in college basketball. The big man tested the NBA waters before deciding to play one more season for No. 3 Purdue. Edey is joined by Marquette guard Tyler Kolek, Kansas center Hunter Dickinson, Duke big man Kyle Filipowski and North Carolina forward Armando Bacot. Edey was the consensus national player of the year last season after averaging 22.3 points and 12.9 rebounds while shooting nearly 61% from the field.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia coach Kirby Smart and safety Javon Bullard insist no extra stress accompanies the team’s school-record 24-game winning streak. The top-ranked Bulldogs will try to extend the streak on Saturday against Florida in Jacksonville. More streaks are on the line. Georgia is No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the 19th consecutive week, the third-longest streak ever and the longest in SEC history. The Bulldogs have won a school-record 34 consecutive regular-season games, a streak that began with a victory over Mississippi State in November 2020. Also at stake will be Georgia’s 23 straight wins in SEC games.

UNDATED (AP) — The margin between No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan in The Associated Press college football poll is the smallest it has been all season. Can the Wolverines break the Southeastern Conference’s three-year stranglehold on No. 1 and become the first team from outside the Deep South to hold the top spot in the rankings since Ohio State in 2015? Sure, if Georgia losses and Michigan keeps rolling. But the window of opportunity for the Wolverines to snatch No. 1 away from the Bulldogs while they are winning has probably closed.
