Over the years, Kovacs has shot numerous motion pictures, ranging from exploitation films such as “Hell’s Angels on Wheels” to feel-good comedies such as “My Best Friends Wedding,” but he remains fascinated by a 1969 biker picture that changed Hollywood.
“None of us had that idea (that “Easy Rider” would become a classic),” Kovacs says during an interview in “New Wave King.” “The only thing we were hoping for was that it would be better than the standard drive-in programming. We had a great time shooting it because of Dennis Hopper (who also directed), Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.
“I’ve probably seen the film 40 times, and every time I watch it I discover something I hadn’t noticed before. The spirit of ‘Easy Rider’ is captivating. It was a very emotional experience for me to see that this 30-year-old film could still move people.”
