Dry Knob School House Theatre to present patriotic play
FAIRCHANCE – Dry Knob School House Theatre will present “That’s What America Means to Me” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the School House Theatre for parents, relatives, friends and the public. The second presentation of “That’s Why America Means to Me” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, May 10. The cast becomes a traveling troupe as it travels to the Wharton Furnace Union Church for the Mother’s Day program in the Wharton Furnace Union Church in Wharton Township.
“That’s What America Means to Me” is a history lesson in a classroom of “less than enthusiastic” students, who learn about freedom in America. The history lesson becomes a learning adventure as the students bring their knowledge of events and people to the discussion.
Many patriotic songs are included as various people from history are remembered. The class learns the importance of liberty, and the seriousness of how liberty and freedom has been won is intertwined with the privilege and pride of being an American.
This is a cast of beginning performers with the exception of teacher Eric Long, who has performed at the Dry Knob School House Theatre numerous times.
The cast includes Eric Long as Mr. Dodd and the teacher; Macey Demniak as Kim, “the brain”; Lauren Barchetti as Phoebe, “the class clown”; Stephanie Barchetti as Belinda, “the goodie two shoe”; Aaron Long as Gary, “the fun-loving average guy”; Heather Hudak as Heather, “the class observer”; and Alivia DeWitt as Alivia as “the mascot of the pack.”
