Hollywood tale, concert picture arrive on big screen

The new motion pictures opening today at a theater near you include: At the buck$ office

Mike Myers enjoyed a groovy debut as “Austin Powers in Goldmember” set a record opening for a comedy last weekend.

According to the Associated Press, the third installment in the “Powers” series grossed more than $71 million.

The PG-13 picture earned more than the combined totals of the next nine films.

The top 10 films last weekend were:

1. “Austin Powers in Goldmember” ($71.5 million)

2. “Road to Perdition” ($11 million)

3. “Stuart Little II” ($10.7 million)

4. “Men in Black II” ($8.7 million)

5. “K-19: The Widowmaker” ($7.3 million)

6. “The Country Bears” ($5.2 million)

7. “Mr. Deeds” ($4.2 million)

8. “Reign of Fire” ($3.3 million)

9. “Minority Report” ($3.1 million)

10. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” ($3 million)
