‘The Taffetas’ to bring back 1950s music
DELMONT – “The Taffetas,” a story about four sisters who try to make it big in the music business, will bring the 1950s back to the Apple Hill Playhouse in Delmont. The four woman cast sings nostalgic hits including “Sincerely,” “Lollipop,” “Sh-Boom” and “Mr. Sandman.” The cast of “The Taffetas” includes Katy Wayne from Butler, Rori Airello from Irwin, Katie Kirchner from Greensburg and Leyna McCarthy from Irwin.
“It’s fun working in a cast of only four girls,” says Aiello, a theater major at Point Park College. “We’ve gotten to know each other just like sisters do.”
This performance is special for Aiello because she grew up watching children’s theater productions at Apple Hill. She is thrilled to be on the stage where she once watched so many others perform.
Katy Wayne is also enjoying her role as a flirty and fun-loving 1950s singer. She loves the music and harmonies and thinks highly of director Sharon Schaller of Churchill.
Shaller is a true theater professional. She is a member of both the Actors’ Equity Association and the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. She comes to Apple Hill after performing in “The Taffetas” twice at Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown.
“Apple Hill is such a beautiful little country theater that provides for a very intimate show,” said Katie Kirchner, star of last year’s production of “Grease.” “There is so much wonderful public interest and community support for the shows. All in all a very nice working environment.”
Music director for “The Taffetas” is Michael W. Rozell of Latrobe. Alex Bochicchio of North Huntingdon is the stage manager for the production.
The Taffetas runs now through Saturday, June 29. Curtain time is at 8 p.m. for evening performances and 2 p.m. for the matinee. Call the Apple Hill Box Office for tickets at 724-468-5050 or log on to www.applehillplayhouse.org.
