Asbury reveals selections for upcoming organ recital

2 min read

The program selections for the Gordon Turk organ recital were revealed recently by the Asbury Festival Recital Series board of directors. Dr. Turk will appear in concert at Asbury United Methodist Church in Uniontown at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.

The program of selections chosen by Turk for this inaugural concert of the new recital series promises to use all that Asbury’s 42-rank, three-manual pipe organ has to offer.

Turk will begin the concert with “Festival March in D” by Henry Smart (1813-1879). He will follow next with “Fountain Reverie” by Percy Fletcher (1879-1932). Rounding out the first half of the recital will be “Toccata in F Major BWV 540” by Johann Sebestian Bach, “Cantilene” by Theodore Salome (1834-1896) and “Symphony No. 5” Allego, Adagi and Toccata by Charles-Marie Widow (1844-1937).

After a brief intermission, the concert will continue with “Roulade Opus 9, No. 3” by Seth Bingham (1882-1972), Andantino in D-flat “Moonlight and Roses,” by Edwin H. Lemare (1865-1934), “Marche Heroique Opus 34” by Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921), which will be transcribed by Turk.

Turk will end the recital with a period of improvisations on submitted themes. Turk’s improvisation has evoked the enthusiastic endorsement of audiences, fellow musicians and critics around the world.

Tickets for the Turk recital are available at the following outlets: Fayette Area Chamber offices in downtown Uniontown; Judy’s Do-Re-Me Music Shop on South Beeson Boulevard in Uniontown; Amend’s Jewelry in the Uniontown Mall; and White Picket Fence in Hopwood.

The admission price is $12. The doors at Asbury United Methodist Church will open to ticket holders 45 minutes before the concert.

Turk will present the first concert in a four-concert series.

Four and two-concert subscription packages, at considerable savings, may be purchased by calling 724-557-1119.

Asbury United Methodist Church is located at the corner of South Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street. The sanctuary is handicapped accessible from South Beeson.
