Postscript: Silberling, 39, met actress Amy Brenneman (“Judging Amy”) while directing an episode of “NYPD Blue” four years after the death of Rebecca Schaeffer. Silberling and Brenneman married in 1995 and have a 1-year-old daughter. The writer-director remains close to Schaeffer’s parents and named Hoffman’s character, Ben, in honor of the late woman’s father. FILM REVIEW
